What is Pascorbin® and what is it used for?

Pascorbin® is an injection solution that contains the active ingredient ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C.Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that performs various important functions in the body.Pascorbin® is used to treat clinical vitamin C deficiencies that cannot be compensated for through diet or oral intake.It is also used for methemoglobinemia in children.

Areas of application

Pascorbin® is used to treat vitamin C deficiencies that cannot be corrected through diet or oral intake.It is also used to treat childhood methemoglobinemia.A severe vitamin C deficiency can occur in acute and chronic infections, chronic inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, intestinal absorption disorders or after operations.

Pascorbin® contains the active ingredient ascorbic acid in a concentration of 150 mg per ml injection solution.It also contains the excipients sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium ions and water for injection purposes.

Dosage

Pascorbin® should always be used exactly as your doctor has told you.The usual dose is 5 ml slowly injected intravenously daily, up to 50 ml as an adjunct to the infusion.To prevent vitamin C deficiency during prolonged artificial feeding, adults receive 100 to 500 mg of ascorbic acid per day, children 5 to 7 mg per kg of body weight.For methemoglobinemia in childhood, 500 to 1000 mg of ascorbic acid are injected intravenously once.It should be used by medical personnel.

Type of application

Pascorbin® is slowly injected intravenously by a doctor or medical staff.The duration of use is determined by the doctor based on the course of the disease and the blood values.

Contraindications

Pascorbin® must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, calcium oxalate kidney stones and certain diseases in which too much iron is stored in the body, such as thalassemia, hemochromatosis and sideroblastic anemia.In case of impaired kidney function, dialysis, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency or respiratory diseases, the medicine should only be used after consulting a doctor.

Side effects

Possible side effects can include allergic hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract, skin reactions, circulatory disorders such as dizziness, nausea and worsening vision, chills and increased body temperature in acute infections.If you experience any discomfort or changes during treatment, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Pascorbin® should be kept out of the reach of children and not stored above 25°C.The ampoules or injection bottles should be stored away from light.The injection solution is only intended for one-time use and must be used immediately after opening.Any unused leftovers must be discarded.

Important notes

No prescription is required for this product.If you are allergic to ascorbic acid, you should be careful.There may be medicines with which interactions occur.Therefore, before starting treatment with a new medicine, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist any other medicines you are already using.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, an amount of ascorbic acid should not be exceeded 100 to 500 mg daily.In these cases, it is recommended to contact a doctor or pharmacist.
