Areas of application

Pascorbin is an injection solution containing the active ingredient ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C. This water-soluble vitamin is used to treat clinical vitamin C deficiencies that cannot be corrected through diet or oral intake.It is also used for childhood methemoglobinemia, a disease in which oxygen transport in the blood is disrupted.

Mode of action

Ascorbic acid supports the immune system, neutralizes aggressive oxygen compounds and free radicals, has a positive effect on less severe illnesses such as colds, accelerates blood clotting, binds toxic heavy metals and improves iron absorption from the intestine.It can also act as a buffer and increase stomach tolerance of drugs.

Composition

Each 5 ml ampoule of Pascorbin contains 750 mg of ascorbic acid as the active ingredient.The excipients included are sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium ion (4.2 mmol) and water for injection purposes.

Dosage and application

Pascorbin is slowly injected intravenously by a healthcare professional.The dosage depends on the patient's individual situation and is determined by the doctor.To prevent vitamin C deficiency, adults receive 100 to 500 mg of ascorbic acid intravenously daily; children receive 5 to 7 mg per kilogram of body weight.For methemoglobinemia in childhood, 500 to 1000 mg of ascorbic acid are injected intravenously once.The maximum daily dose should not exceed 100 mg per kilogram of body weight.

Contraindications

Pascorbin must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, calcium oxalate kidney stones and certain iron storage diseases such as thalassemia, hemochromatosis and sideroblastic anemia.Caution is advised in cases of impaired kidney function, dialysis, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and respiratory diseases.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use should be discussed with your doctor.

Side effects

Possible side effects include allergic hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract, skin reactions, circulatory disorders such as dizziness, nausea and worsening vision, as well as chills and increased body temperature in acute infections.If you experience any health problems, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Pascorbin should be stored out of the reach of children, protected from heat and light and not above 25°C.The medicine is only intended for one-time withdrawal and must be used immediately after opening the ampoule.Any unused leftovers must be discarded.
