What is Pycnogenol?

Pycnogenol Pine Bark Extract Dragees are a dietary supplement made from the patented raw extract of the French maritime pine (Pinus pinaster).These pines are grown in the southwest of France and used for furniture production.The bark of these trees is used for the production of Pycnogenol, with approximately 1000 kilograms of bark required per kilogram of Pycnogenol.It is important that the bioflavonoids from the fresh bark are obtained within 48 hours of felling the tree.

Production of Pycnogenol

The outer tree bark is ground into powder and extracted with ethanol and water using a patented process.After cleaning, the raw extract is spray-dried, creating a fine brown powder.This extract is standardized and contains 70% (+/- 5%) of the active plant substances procyanidins.Pycnogenol contains various bioflavonoids such as catechin, epicatechin, flavone and taxifolin as well as fruit acids such as caffeic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, coumaric acid and vanillic acid.

Pycnogenol pine bark extract dragees contain the following ingredients: filler microcrystalline cellulose, anti-caking agent maltodextrin, pine bark extract (Pinus pinaster A.), glazing agent hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, anti-caking agent tricalcium phosphate, magnesium salts of fatty acids.Two tablets contain 80 mg of Pinus pinaster extract, four tablets contain 160 mg.

Dosage

In the first week it is recommended to take two dragees twice a day with a meal.Afterwards, one tablet can be taken twice daily.The stated consumption amount should not be exceeded.
