Product features

Mepilex Heel is a foam bandage made of soft silicone that adapts perfectly to the wound.It absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and reduces the risk of maceration.The dressing features a Safetac wound contact layer that minimizes pain and trauma during removal.

Scope of application

Mepilex is suitable for various exuding wounds such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers as well as traumatic injuries including skin tears and secondary healing wounds.The bandage can also be used to protect injured or sensitive skin, as well as for prophylactic treatment to prevent skin injuries such as pressure sores.

Mepilex can also be used by laypeople under the supervision of a medical professional.

Application

Clean the wound according to clinical practice and carefully dry the surrounding skin.Choose the appropriate dressing size so that Mepilex covers the dry skin surrounding the wound by at least 1 - 2 cm for smaller sizes and 3 - 5 cm for larger sizes.The bandage can be trimmed if necessary.

Remove the first protective film and place the adhesive side on the wound.Then remove the remaining protective film and smooth the bandage onto the skin without stretching it.If necessary, fix Mepilex with a bandage or other fixation.

The dressing change interval can be several days.Change the dressing before complete saturation, if there is evidence of leakage, or according to clinical practice.Mepilex can be used under compression bandages and in combination with gels.Disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental regulations.

Precautions

Do not use Mepilex in patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.Do not combine the dressing with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.

If there are signs of clinical infection, such as fever or redness, warmth or swelling of the wound or surrounding skin, contact a healthcare professional.Do not reuse the dressing as this may affect product performance and lead to contamination.

Mepilex is sterile.Do not use the dressing if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened before use.Do not re-sterilize the dressing.

Warnings

The polyurethane foam used in the product may turn yellowish when exposed to light, air and/or heat.This color change does not affect the product properties as long as the product is used before the expiry date.
