Instructions for use of the article Ampuwa plastic ampoule solution for injection/infusion. Ampuwa is a solvent for the preparation of parenterals, especially water for injection. It is used as a solvent for dissolving and diluting medicinal products to be administered by injection or infusion. Before using Ampuwa, some points must be observed. It must not be administered without addition as it is hypotonic and contains no solutes. There may be a risk of haemolysis as water without any substances dissolved in it may enter the red blood cells in excessive amounts. Contraindications resulting from the added medicinal product must also be observed. Special care should be taken when using Ampuwa. Only clear and colourless solutions in undamaged containers should be used. Administration should be in the form of a ready-to-use preparation to avoid osmotically induced disturbances. When administering large volumes, the ion balance in the blood is checked regularly. Ampuwa may be used in combination with other medicines, but previous or current medications should be discussed with the doctor or pharmacist. In pregnancy and lactation, the risks depend on the type of medicinal product added. The ability to drive and operate machinery is not affected by Ampuwa. Ampuwa is used by healthcare professionals.
