Konakion MM 2 mg solution is a vitamin preparation used to prevent and treat vitamin K deficiency bleeding in newborns. It contains the active substance phytomenadione (vitamin K1). The medicine can be administered either as an injection or orally. Healthy newborns born at or near the calculated due date are given either a single injection of 1 mg at birth or an initial dose of 2 mg by mouth (orally) at birth, followed by further doses after 4-7 days and one month. Newborns at increased risk of bleeding receive Konakion MM 2 mg as an injection. Further doses may be given if the bleeding risk persists. There are certain contraindications to the use of the medicine, including allergies to phytomenadione or other ingredients of the medicine. The medicinal product may cause side effects such as hypersensitivity reactions and injection site reactions.
