Ginkgo AbZ 80 mg film-coated tablets contain a dry extract from Ginkgo biloba leaves.This herbal medicine is used to improve age-related cognitive impairment and quality of life in mild dementia.No prescription is required for this product.

Each film-coated tablet contains 80 mg dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves with an extraction ratio of 35-67:1, using acetone 60% (m/m) as the extractant.The most important ingredients of the extract are ginkgo flavonoid glycosides, ginkgolides A+B+C, bilobalides and ginkgolic acids.

The other ingredients of the tablets are:

Tablet core: Croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], microcrystalline cellulose, spray-dried glucose syrup.

Film coating: Macrogol 3350, poly(vinyl alcohol), talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron (III) hydroxide oxide x H2O (E 172).

Ginkgo AbZ 80 mg film-coated tablets are a herbal medicine for improving age-related cognitive impairment and quality of life in mild dementia.

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults is 1 and ½ film-coated tablets twice daily, corresponding to 240 mg ginkgo dry extract daily.It should be taken in the morning and afternoon.

The duration of treatment should be at least 8 weeks.If there is no improvement in symptoms after 3 months or if the symptoms of the disease worsen, the doctor should check whether continuing treatment is still justified.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid, preferably a glass of drinking water.The tablets can be divided into equal doses.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be taken if you are allergic to Ginkgo biloba extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine or if you are pregnant.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if the symptoms worsen during treatment or if you have an abnormal tendency to bleed, if you are being treated with blood-thinning medication at the same time, if you are known to have a seizure disorder (epilepsy), if an operation is planned in the next 3 to 4 days or if you are taking efavirenz.

There is no corresponding indication for children and adolescents.There are no data on dosage for impaired kidney or liver function.

Your doctor will tell you whether your illness allows you to drive and use machines.There have been no adequate studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

Since there is some evidence that preparations containing ginkgo could increase the risk of bleeding, this medicine must not be taken during pregnancy.This medicine should not be used during breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.It is not known whether the ingredients of the extract pass into breast milk.

Notes

The medicine contains glucose, lactose and less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium per film-coated tablet, i.e.h.it is almost “sodium free”.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
