Area of application

The CoaguChek XS PT test consists of test strips that are used to quantitatively determine the prothrombin time (PT) of capillary whole blood or non-anticoagulated venous whole blood.These test strips are suitable for use with the CoaguChek XS, XS Plus or XS Pro devices and allow for easy self-application.The pack contains two blisters with 24 test strips each.

Mode of action

The test strips use an electrochemical measuring principle to determine the prothrombin time.Each test strip contains a test pad with a prothrombin reagent containing recombinant human thromboplastin.As soon as the blood is applied, the reagent dissolves and an electrochemical reaction takes place, which is converted into a clotting time value.This value is shown on the device display in INR-units.

The measuring range of the test strips is 0.8 to 8.0 INR, which corresponds to 5 to 120% Quick.The individual therapeutic range is determined by your treating doctor.The association between INR and % Quick may vary slightly depending on the test strip lot.

Dosage

Only fresh capillary blood or venous whole blood without anticoagulants (such as heparin, EDTA, citrate, oxalate or other substances) should be used for the measurement.If capillaries are used for blood collection, only the special CoaguChek capillary tubes should be used.

Instructions for use

If the measurement results are unusually low or high, the test should be repeated.If the measurement result is still outside the therapeutic range, the treating doctor must be informed immediately to discuss further measures.The PTself-determination supports medical control, but cannot replace it.The measurement results should be recorded in a diary and presented to the doctor regularly.

Storage and shelf life

The test strips should be stored at temperatures between 2 and 30°C.They are good for use until the expiry date stated on the package.After removing a test strip, the tube must be closed tightly again immediately in order to protect the remaining test strips from external influences such as humidity.

Materials supplied

The pack contains test strips and a code chip.Additionally, a CoaguChek XS Plus, XS Pro or XS device, CoaguChek XS PT Controls, a lancing device such as the CoaguChek XS Softclix and lancets are required.

The CoaguChek XS Softclix lancing device has been specially developed for self-control by the patient and is not suitable for use in the clinic or for testing different people as there is a risk of infection.
