Instructions for use of Folverlan 0.4 mg

Folverlan 0.4 mg is a vitamin preparation that contains the active ingredient folic acid.It is used to prevent neural tube defects, particularly spina bifida ("open back"), as well as to prevent and treat folic acid deficiency conditions that cannot be compensated for by diet.No prescription is required for this product.

Important information before taking

Folverlan 0.4 mg must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to folic acid or any of the other ingredients of the product.The preparation should also not be used if you have anemia caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency.Folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency, which can lead to permanent damage to the nervous system.

Particular caution is required in the case of a so-called megaloblastic anemia (a form of anemia) which is due to a lack of vitamin B12 alone or the cause of which is not clear.In this case you should seek the advice of your doctor.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines as these can affect the way Folverlan 0.4 mg works.This also applies to non-prescription medicines.

Application of Folverlan 0.4 mg

Always take Folverlan 0.4 mg exactly as directed in the package leaflet.The usual dose to prevent neural tube defects is 1 tablet daily.To prevent folic acid deficiency, 1 to 2 tablets can be taken daily.To treat folic acid deficiency, 3 to 4 tablets can be taken three times a day.

The tablets are taken whole with a little liquid with meals.The duration of use is determined by the doctor.To prevent neural tube defects, you should start taking it one month before you plan to become pregnant and continue until at least three months after you become pregnant.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Folverlan 0.4 mg can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.In individual cases, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin redness, itching, shortness of breath, nausea or circulatory collapse can occur.At very high doses, gastrointestinal disorders, sleep disorders, agitation and depression can occur.

Storage

Store Folverlan 0.4 mg dry and not above 25°C.Store the medicine in the original packaging to protect the contents from moisture.Store drug out of reach of children.

Composition

The active ingredient is folic acid.One tablet contains 0.4 mg folic acid.The other ingredients are pregelatinized starch, lactose monohydrate, poly(O-carboxymethyl) starch sodium salt, microcrystalline cellulose, highly disperse silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.

Folverlan 0.4 mg contains lactose (milk sugar).Please only take Folverlan 0.4 mg after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.If you have lactose intolerance due to lactase deficiency, the small amount of lactose (39.5 mg per tablet) will most likely not cause any symptoms.
