Read this leaflet carefully as it contains important information.This medicine is available without a prescription.For optimal treatment success, Folsan 0.4 mg should be used correctly.Keep this information and consult your pharmacist if you have any questions.

Active ingredient and other ingredients

The active ingredient is folic acid.Each tablet contains 0.4 mg folic acid.The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, macrogol 4000, magnesium stearate, corn starch, sucrose and stearic acid.

Areas of application

Folsan 0.4 mg is used to prevent folic acid deficiency when sufficient folic acid intake with food is not possible.It also serves to prevent neural tube defects in newborns through preventative treatment for women before and during pregnancy.Taking folic acid is also recommended with a balanced diet.

Dosage and application

Always take Folsan 0.4 mg exactly as directed.To prevent folic acid deficiency, the usual dose is one tablet daily.On medical advice, the dose can be increased to two tablets daily.To prevent neural tube defects in newborns, it is recommended that pregnant women and women who want to have children take one tablet daily.Here too, the dose can be increased upon medical advice.

The tablets are taken whole with meals with sufficient liquid.The duration of use is determined by the doctor.It is important to start taking it before pregnancy and continue for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Folsan 0.4 mg can have side effects.In individual cases, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin redness, itching, shortness of breath, nausea or circulatory collapse can occur.At very high doses, gastrointestinal disorders, sleep disorders, agitation and depression can occur.

Contraindications

Folsan 0.4 mg must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to folic acid or any of the other ingredients.The medicine must also not be taken if there is megaloblastic anemia as a result of a vitamin B12 deficiency without simultaneous vitamin B12 treatment or if the cause is unclear, as long as a vitamin B12 deficiency has not been ruled out.

Special Notes

Particular caution is required if there is a risk of megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency.Folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency, which can lead to permanent damage to the nervous system.There are no known risks during pregnancy or breastfeeding.No effects on the ability to drive or use machines are expected.

If you have a proven intolerance to certain sugars, consult your doctor before taking them.

Interactions with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about other medicines you are taking.Folic acid can affect the effects of certain medicines, particularly in the treatment of seizure disorders, bacterial infections, malaria and tumors.

Storage

Keep the medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the carton or container.Do not store the medicine above 30 °C and in the outer carton.
