Instructions for use for BALNEUM Hermal liquid bath additive, 500 ml
Area of application
Balneum Hermal is a liquid bath additive that is used to support the treatment of skin diseases with dry and slightly itchy skin. These include, among others, atopic eczema (neurodermatitis), psoriasis (psoriasis), fish scale disease (ichthyosis), age-related itching (pruritus senilis) and various eczema such as wind eczema and washing eczema.
The medicinal oil baths are distributed in the bath water in the finest droplets and form a nourishing lipid film on the skin. This means that the skin is evenly and thinly greased, which is particularly helpful for areas that are difficult to reach when applying cream. At the same time, the release of important moisture retention factors from the top layer of skin is reduced, which supports the stabilization of the skin's hydrolipid system and the restoration of the natural skin barrier function.
Balneum Hermal is finely distributed in the bath water and moisturizes the skin even while bathing. The release of physiological moisturizing factors from the horny layer is reduced and the increased water evaporation in eczema, the so-called transepidermal water loss (TEWL), is reduced.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
The active ingredient in Balneum Hermal is refined soybean oil.100 grams of the liquid bath additive contains 84.75 grams of refined soybean oil.
The other ingredients are lauromacrogol 400, N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)oleamide, fragrance (contains D-limonene and linalool), propylene glycol, butylhydroxytoluene (Ph.Eur.), palmitoyl ascorbic acid (Ph.Eur.) and citric acid monohydrate.
Contraindications
Balneum Hermal must not be used if you are allergic to refined soybean oil, soya, peanut, D-limonene, linalool or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. The product should also not be used in fresh pustular forms of psoriasis (psoriasis pustulosa).
In the case of major skin injuries, acute unclear skin diseases, severe febrile and infectious diseases, weak heart muscle (heart failure) and high blood pressure (hypertension), full baths should only be used after consulting a doctor.
Dosage
The frequency of use of Balneum Hermal depends on the type and extent of the symptoms. In general, the baths should be taken every 2-3 days.
When bathing, add Balneum Hermal to the bath water and mix well until even distribution is achieved. The bath water temperature should not exceed 36 °C, as the moisturizing effect decreases at higher temperatures. To treat itching, the temperature should be 32°C or as low as tolerated.
The bathing time should not exceed 20 minutes. For infants and small children, an application time of just a few minutes is usually sufficient. After bathing, the skin should only be lightly dabbed with a towel, as vigorous drying and rubbing reduces the therapeutic effect.
To measure the required amount, the inner part of the screw cap can be used as a measuring cup.For a full bath (approx. 150 l) use 2-3 measuring cups (30-45 ml), for a children's bath (approx. 25 l) use 1/3 measuring cup (5 ml) and for a partial bath (5 l) use 1 ml of Balneum Hermal.
Intake
The preparation is added to the bath water and mixed well until an even distribution is achieved. The bath water temperature should not exceed 36°C, as the moisturizing effect decreases at higher temperatures. To treat itching, the temperature should be 32°C or as low as tolerated.
Children under 2 years of age should only be used under constant, appropriate supervision. The special properties of oil baths generally result in an increased risk of slipping.Particular care must therefore be taken to ensure that children under 2 years of age do not accidentally slide their heads below the surface of the water.
After bathing, just pat the skin lightly with a towel.Strong drying and rubbing reduces the therapeutic effect.
Patient information

Keep Balneum Hermal out of the reach of children.Parents should prevent children from drinking the bath water. If you accidentally take undiluted Balneum Hermal, you should contact your doctor, even if you have not experienced any symptoms.
