Instructions for use of the article Karsivan 50 vet: Important information (obligatory data): - Karsivan® 50. - Active substance: propentofylline 50 mg. - Indications: Circulatory disorders in the cerebral and peripheral areas. - For risks and side-effects, read the package leaflet and ask your veterinarian or pharmacist. Composition: - 1 film-coated tablet contains: Propentofylline 50 mg. - Other ingredients which must be known in order to use the product properly: None. Dosage for each species, method and duration of use: - For administration with food: dogs are given 3 mg propentofylline per kg body mass (KM) twice daily. - Reduce the dose if renal function is markedly reduced. Contraindications: - Do not use in food-producing animals. Side effects: - Rarely, allergic skin disorders (e.g. urticaria) may occur after administration of Karsivan® 50 mg, necessitating discontinuation of treatment. - In rare cases, vomiting has been observed, especially at the beginning of therapy. - In very rare cases, abdominal pain, inappetence, diarrhoea, ataxia, hyperactivity, dyspnoea, tachycardia and collapse may occur. Special storage instructions: - No special storage instructions are required for this medicinal product. - Keep medicinal product out of reach of children. - Do not use the medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the container and outer wrapping. Special warnings: - In pharmacological studies, Karsivan showed significant improvement of microcirculation in the heart, brain and skeletal muscle in rats, dogs, cats, rabbits as well as monkeys. - Propentofylline has been used primarily in older dogs and showed evidence of improvement in complaints of sluggishness, fatigue, apathy, stiff gait, difficulty getting up and walking, lack of appetite, emaciation and hair loss.
