Karsivan 50 veterinary film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient propentofylline in a dosage of 50 mg per tablet.The other ingredients include corn starch, crospovidone type A, talc, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide, hypromellose, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), iron (III) hydroxide oxide (E 172, yellow) and macrogol 8000.

Contraindications

Karsivan 50 must not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient, in pregnant bitches, in breeding animals and in animals used for food production.

Dosage

The recommended single dosage per kg of a dog's body weight is 3 mg of the active ingredient, twice daily.The dosage regimen depends on the dog's weight: dogs up to 4 kg receive a quarter of a tablet twice daily, dogs between 5 and 8 kg receive half a tablet twice daily, dogs between 9 and 15 kg receive one tablet twice daily, dogs between 16 and 25 kg receive one and a half tablets twice daily, dogs between 26 and 33 kg receive two tablets twice daily and dogs between 34 and 50 kg receive three tablets twice daily.The tablets can be given directly, in a food ball or crushed with the food.Treatment should be given daily and the animals' response to the medication should be checked by a veterinarian.In the case of specific organ diseases such as heart failure, causal treatment should primarily be carried out.If symptoms do not improve, treatment should be discontinued after four weeks.

Application

Unless otherwise prescribed, dogs receive 3 mg propentofylline per kg body weight twice daily.Administer KARSIVAN® morning and evening, hidden in a little food or a treat.Make sure not to give the tablets to your dog immediately after a large meal, but at least 30 minutes before.Old dogs should be treated with KARSIVAN® over a longer period of time, usually even for life.The clinical effectiveness can only be assessed with certainty after a treatment period of at least 4 weeks.When discontinuing KARSIVAN® , age-related symptoms can be expected to return.If your dog's condition does not improve after four weeks of treatment with KARSIVAN®, you should coordinate further therapy with your veterinarian.
