Balneum Hermal - Liquid bath additive

Balneum Hermal is a medical oil bath series based on natural oils for treating dry, slightly itchy and particularly stressed skin.The product replaces the skin's missing oil and thus regulates its moisture content.It is available without a prescription.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Balneum Hermal is refined soybean oil.Other ingredients include lauromacrogol 400, N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)oleamide, fragrance (contains D-limonene, linalool), propylene glycol, butylated hydroxytoluene, palmitoyl ascorbic acid and citric acid monohydrate.

Areas of application

Balneum Hermal is used to support the treatment of skin diseases with dry, slightly itchy skin.These include atopic eczema (neurodermatitis), psoriasis (psoriasis), ichthyosis (fish scale disease), pruritus senilis (senile itching), as well as eczema such as wind eczema and washing eczema.

Mode of action

The oil baths are finely distributed in the bath water and lead to a moisturizing of the skin while bathing.This reduces the release of physiological moisturizing factors from the horny layer and reduces the increased water evaporation that occurs in eczema, the so-called transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Application

When bathing, add Balneum Hermal to the bath water and mix well until even distribution is achieved.The bath water temperature should not exceed 36 °C, as the moisturizing effect decreases at higher temperatures.To treat itching, the temperature should be 32°C or as low as tolerated.The bathing time should not exceed 20 minutes.For infants and small children, an application time of just a few minutes is usually sufficient.

When showering, distribute Balneum Hermal undiluted over the moistened body and then shower off.After bathing, just pat the skin lightly with a towel.Strong drying and rubbing reduces the therapeutic effect.

The frequency of use depends on the type and extent of the symptoms.In general, the baths should be taken every 2 to 3 days.The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease.

Dosage

For a full bath (approx. 150 l) use 2-3 measuring cups (30-45 ml).For a children's bath (approx. 25 l) use 5 ml, for a partial bath (5 l) use 1 ml (approx. 1/4 teaspoon) of Balneum Hermal.To measure the required amount, the inner part of the screw cap can be used as a measuring cup.

Combination with other medicines

It is possible to combine Balneum Hermal with other skin treatment options, such as corticosteroids.The basis here should be the doctor's diagnosis or treatment recommendation.

Cleaning the bathtub

After each bath, the bathtub should be cleaned immediately with a conventional household detergent and then rinsed with hot water.

Safety instructions

There is an increased risk of slipping due to the oil film on the skin and the oil film in the bathtub.You should therefore always ensure that you have a firm grip or stand.

Contraindications

If there is a known hypersensitivity to any of the specified ingredients or active ingredients, use of this product is not recommended.

There are no known restrictions for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Please consult your doctor before using Balneum.

Notes

Butylhydroxytoluene can cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis), irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes.D-limonene, linalool (fragrance components) can cause allergic reactions.
