Instructions for use for KA Vit drops, 5 ml
Area of application
The preparation contains phytomenadione, also known as vitamin K1, which is used to prevent and treat bleeding. It is particularly effective for vitamin K deficiencies that cannot be compensated for through diet. These include:
The prevention of vitamin K deficiency in newborns immediately after birth, in patients with risk factors for vitamin K deficiency as soon as the Quick value falls below the normal limit or the INR-value rises above the normal limit, as well as the treatment of vitamin K deficiency bleeding, which is often accompanied by a Quick value of less than 10% or an INR-value of 5 or higher. This bleeding can be caused by a true vitamin K deficiency or by an overdose of blood-thinning drugs, such as coumarin derivatives.
Risk factors for vitamin K deficiency in newborns and infants can include taking certain medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding, premature or deficient birth, complicated birth, late start of feeding, exclusive breast milk feeding and inadequate feeding. In older children and adults, impaired absorption of certain substances from the intestine, parenteral nutrition, biliary atresia, cystic fibrosis, cytomegalovirus infection, obstructive jaundice, pancreatic diseases, A-ß-lipoproteinemia, treatment with certain antibiotics, sulfonamides or salicylates can represent risk factors.
Deficiency symptoms can be caused by a true vitamin K deficiency or the use of anticoagulant drugs.Signs of bleeding include bruising, black stools, red urine and severe headaches, dizziness or failure due to brain bleeding.

Always take this medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. In newborns, the use of vitamin K1 depends on the purpose for which it is given and whether the baby was born prematurely.Healthy newborns receive a first dose of 2 drops at or shortly after birth, a second dose of 2 drops 3 to 10 days after birth, and a third dose of 2 drops 4 to 5 weeks after birth. The third dose may be omitted for infants who are exclusively bottle-fed.Premature or full-term babies with a high risk of bleeding should receive vitamin K1 as an injection.
In the case of vitamin K deficiency bleeding, the dose should be adjusted according to the desired effect. For minor bleeding, a dose of 1-5 mg of phytomenadione is generally sufficient. For moderate bleeding, administration of 5-10 mg phytomenadione is recommended. If you take it for a long time, you should consult your doctor.Even after an overdose, no toxic symptoms have been reported.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.If you stop taking it, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
