Product features

Mepilex XT is a highly customizable foam dressing made of soft silicone that absorbs both low and high viscosity exudate.It maintains a moist wound environment and minimizes the risk of maceration.The dressing features a Safetac wound contact layer that minimizes patient pain and trauma to wounds and surrounding skin when removing the dressing.

Mepilex XT consists of a wound contact layer made of soft silicone (Safetac), a flexible absorbent wound dressing made of polyurethane foam and an outer polyurethane film that is breathable but waterproof.

No prescription is required for this product.

Scope of application

Mepilex XT is suitable for a variety of exuding acute and chronic wounds in all stages of healing, such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds, e.g. skin tears and secondary healing wounds.The bandage can also be used by laypeople under the supervision of a medical professional.

Application

Clean the wound according to clinical practice and carefully dry the surrounding skin.Choose an appropriate dressing size that covers the dry skin surrounding the wound by at least 1 - 2 cm for small sizes and 3 - 5 cm for large sizes.The dressing can be adapted to different wound shapes and locations.

Remove the first protective film and place the adhesive side on the wound.Remove the remaining protective film and smooth the bandage onto the skin without stretching it.If necessary, secure the bandage with a bandage or other restraint.

The dressing change interval can be several days.Change the dressing before it is fully saturated, if there is evidence of leakage, or according to clinical practice.Mepilex XT can be used under compression bandages and in combination with gels.Disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental regulations.

Precautions

Do not use Mepilex XT in patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.Do not use the dressing with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.

If you see signs of clinical infection, such as fever or if the wound or surrounding skin becomes red, warm or swollen, contact a healthcare professional for appropriate treatment.

Use particular caution when considering use on very sensitive skin/tissues, such as patients diagnosed with epidermolysis bullosa.The unique surface of the wound dressing can place additional strain on the wound bed and the skin surrounding the wound.Consider using another Safetac product.

Do not reuse the bandage.If reused, product performance may deteriorate and contamination transfer may occur.The bandage is sterile.Do not use if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened before use.Do not re-sterilize the dressing.

Warnings

The polyurethane foam used in the product may turn yellowish when exposed to light, air and/or heat.The color change does not affect the product properties if the product is used before the expiry date.
