Individual needs - especially for him
No longer being able to control your own bladder can be very stressful and make everyday life more difficult. Many men are affected by this problem as they get older.MoliCare® Premium MEN products offer a solution to regain security and self-confidence.The insoles and pants specially developed for the male anatomy ensure comfort and easy handling.Liquid is quickly transported away from the surface and odors are firmly trapped.A pH skin-neutral distribution pad helps maintain the skin's natural pH value and has an antibacterial effect. The comfortable fit of the pants replaces briefs, and the inserts can be worn discreetly inside your underwear.
Incontinence products specifically for men
Many older men experience at some point that they can no longer properly control their bladder.Modern hygiene products that are specifically adapted to the male anatomy offer support for incontinence. These products are inconspicuous from the outside and ensure dryness and a better quality of life.
Causes of incontinence in men
Men are rarely affected by incontinence at a young age. When it occurs in this age group, it is often preceded by inflammation of the prostate or nerve diseases. Most men affected by incontinence are older. The causes lie in disease- or age-related dysfunction of the bladder and prostate. In all cases, it is important to get good medical advice in order to be able to use the various supportive measures for incontinence hygiene in a targeted manner.
Overflow incontinence
Overflow incontinence is the form of incontinence that most commonly occurs in men.It can be compared to a constant dripping of the bladder.Physical changes in the body, such as nerve damage, prostate enlargement or being overweight, can be causes. The hygiene products for this special form of incontinence should be anatomically adapted to the man.
The optimal incontinence hygiene for men
For men, depending on the position of the penis in the underwear and the choice of underwear, there is a different exit point for urine. The incontinence products MoliCare® Premium HARTMANN were developed by MEN for these different wearing habits. The MoliCare® Premium MEN PAD 2 drops incontinence pad is suitable for men who wear their penis upwards in their underwear. The shape of the bag is particularly discreet and offers a high level of comfort. If you have mild bladder weakness, the template can accompany your everyday life unnoticed and comfortably. It also offers optimal protection during sporting activities and exercise. If there is more urine loss, we recommend the MoliCare® Premium MEN PAD 3, 4 or 5 drops incontinence pads. The V-shaped templates have a special absorbent body and an inner cuff system. They enclose the entire genital area and offer a high level of leakage protection. The incontinence pads are suitable for men who wear their penis downwards in their underwear. These can also use all unisex products.MoliCare® Premium MEN PANTS is used to help patients with light to moderate urine loss go through the day undisturbed by wetness and humidity. Here the suction body is moved forward to provide optimal leakage protection in all positions. They are worn instead of normal underwear. These disposable pants offer reliable protection without showing under clothing.
Overflow incontinence - a typical men's problem
Although the prostate makes a major contribution to “masculinity”, it is a taboo subject for many men.In old age it often causes problems and can cause overflow incontinence. The prostate, also known as the prostate gland, is an organ that only men have access to. Their main task is to produce a fluid that is necessary as a means of transport for the sperm cells. It also serves to accelerate the sperm by contracting.During the contraction, the bladder sphincter is simultaneously closed. The prostate is therefore both a sexual organ and part of the urinary tract, which is reflected in the various disorders.
Benign prostate enlargement - cause of many problems
A benign enlarged prostate is very often to blame for older men's bladder emptying problems.Around the age of 50, the prostate gland, which is usually about the size of a chestnut, begins to enlarge in most men.The cause of this growth appears to be age-related hormonal changes. As the gland slowly increases in size, the prostatic part of the urethra directly below the bladder opening becomes more and more narrowed (obstruction). This leads to problems with urination and the typical symptoms of an enlarged prostate, such as weak urine stream, interrupted urination, problems starting to urinate, feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, frequent urination, dribbling of urine after urination, sudden strong urge to urinate and involuntary urination, pain, burning and pulling when urinating and blood in the urine.
How does incontinence develop with chronic urinary retention?
Incontinence caused by chronic urinary retention is called “overflow incontinence”.It occurs as follows: Due to the blockage of the urethra, the urine accumulates in the bladder and gradually overstretches the bladder wall muscles.Inside the bladder, the pressure increases due to the large amount of urine retained, which eventually overcomes the narrowness of the urethra. As a result, urine constantly comes out in a dribble. In addition, urine can back up into the kidneys, leading to kidney failure in the worst case scenario.
What else can lead to overflow incontinence?
The greatest stress tests on the pelvic floor muscles are pregnancy and childbirth. The pelvic floor, like the abdominal wall, is exposed to increasing pressure from the enlarging uterus.During a vaginal birth, these forces on the pelvic floor increase significantly. This can lead to damage to the pelvic floor muscles.Other possible causes of stress incontinence include constant heavy work that puts strain on the abdomen, chronic constipation, hormone deficiency during menopause, hereditary connective tissue weakness, excessive weight and general muscle loss with age.
What can be done about stress incontinence?
The most common cause of overflow incontinence is a mechanical blockage (obstruction) below the bladder outlet, for example due to the described enlargement of the prostate.Scars resulting from improper catheterization can also lead to a narrowing of the urethra (urethral stricture). However, overflow incontinence can also occur after a single acute over-distension of the bladder during or after surgical procedures.Neurogenic or psychogenic forms of overflow incontinence are less common. They are closely related to underlying diseases such as diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis or other degenerative diseases of the central nervous system.
How can overflow incontinence be diagnosed and treated?
In order to treat overflow incontinence, the underlying disease that causes it must be identified and treated effectively. If a benign enlargement of the prostate is suspected as the cause, the diagnosis is first made by palpating the prostate with a finger. The doctor then determines the residual urine and determines the extent of the obstruction by measuring the urine stream (uroflowmetry). An ultrasound examination also provides further information about the degree of enlargement. It is absolutely necessary to differentiate between a benign and a malignant growth. For this purpose, the tumor marker “prostate-specific antigen” (PSA) is determined through a blood test and, if necessary, a tissue sample is taken using a biopsy.
Treatment options depending on the trigger
The treatment of overflow incontinence caused by prostate enlargement depends on the stage of the obstruction. In the early stages with few symptoms, medical treatment is usually sufficient. As the size of the prostate increases and symptoms increase, surgery should be considered as the most effective treatment. The treatment of neurogenic or psychogenic forms of overflow incontinence is more difficult. Here, only symptomatic treatment is usually possible. This means that medication is used to try to mitigate the effects and signs of both the underlying disease and the overflow incontinence.
Note on incontinence after prostate-OP
Urinary incontinence often occurs as a side effect of a prostate-OP - but this is usually temporary.During surgical removal of the prostate, parts of the internal sphincter are removed. This results in stress or stress incontinence, which has a similar effect to female stress incontinence.Through pelvic floor training tailored to the male anatomy, the external, intact sphincter can be trained and its closing strength strengthened.
Prostate incontinence-OP
After a prostate injury-OP , many men experience temporary incontinence. The good news first: Incontinence after prostate surgery-OP usually improves on its own.Incontinence products specially developed for men can serve as support so that you can go through everyday life without restrictions.
Prostate cancer particularly affects older men
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men.Every year 60,000 men in Germany suffer from it.While it rarely occurs in younger men, the risk increases sharply with age. There are a variety of methods for treating prostate cancer. One of them is the surgical procedure of radical prostatectomy. The entire prostate is surgically removed. The operation offers good prospects for recovery if the cancer has not yet spread. This is why it is the best treatment method for many patients, even though it may affect bladder function as a result.
Temporary incontinence as a possible consequence
Immediately after the operation, approximately half of those who have recently undergone surgery experience incontinence. After one year, only 18% of patients are still affected. So it is often a temporary phase of incontinence.Improvements can still occur even after several years.Incontinence persists permanently in only about 2 - 10% of patients.
Hygienic support for the post-prostate period-OP
The ability to control the bladder and retain urine can be limited to varying degrees after a prostate injury-OP .The MoliCare® Premium MEN products from HARTMANN enable an active life with a high level of comfort. These incontinence products are adapted to the male anatomy and ensure dryness and a secure feeling.Even narrow hygiene pads can help with mild to moderate incontinence. The MoliCare® Premium MEN PADs 2 drops are particularly suitable for active men. They are not visible through clothing and their special cut makes them comfortable to wear. They have a body-friendly bag shape that is very comfortable even at night. If the bladder is more weak, it is important that the urine does not leak. The incontinence pads MoliCare® Premium MEN PADs 3, 4 and 5 drops have special absorbent bodies that can also absorb larger amounts of liquid. In addition, the sanitary pads have a V-shaped fit and a tight inner cuff system that completely encloses the male genital area.
How to improve bladder control
The pelvic floor muscles can be strengthened with targeted training. This improves bladder control.Pelvic floor exercises are easy to learn. Some can also be easily integrated into everyday life.In addition, pelvic floor training can be supported by other measures.Modern biofeedback, electrical stimulation or even surgical methods can be used for this.
