What is filtered out?

The size of airborne particles is measured in microns.A micron is one-thousandth of a millimeter.Particles that are 10 microns or smaller are invisible to the naked eye.Consider, for instance, current pollen levels, dust, fibers, secondhand smoke, and sawdust.
