What is ben-u-ron and what is it used for?

ben-u-ron is a painkiller and fever-reducing medicine that contains the active ingredient paracetamol.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and/or fever.These include, for example, headaches, period pains and toothaches.

Active ingredients and other ingredients

Each tablet contains 500 mg of paracetamol as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are carboxymethyl starch sodium (type A), povidone, stearic acid, talc, corn starch and precipitated silicon dioxide.

Areas of application

ben-u-ron is used for mild to moderate pain and fever.It is suitable for children aged 4 and over, teenagers and adults.

Dosage and application

The dosage depends on age and body weight.General guidelines are:

Children aged 4-6 years with a body weight of 17-20 kg: 1/2 tablet 1-4 times daily (max. 2 tablets per day).

Children aged 6-8 years with a body weight of 21-25 kg: 1/2 tablet 1-5 times daily (max. 2 1/2 tablets per day).

Children aged 8-11 with a body weight of 26-31 kg: 1/2 tablet 1-6 times daily (max. 3 tablets per day).

Children aged 11-12 years with a body weight of 32-43 kg: 1 tablet 1-4 times a day (max. 4 tablets per day).

Adolescents aged 12 and over and adults over 43 kg body weight: 1-2 tablets 1-4 times daily (max. 8 tablets per day).

The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid.Taking it after meals may result in a delayed onset of action.

Duration of application

You should not use ben-u-ron for longer than 3 days without medical advice.If you have long-lasting or recurring symptoms, you should consult your doctor.

Contraindications

ben-u-ron must not be taken if you or your child are hypersensitive to paracetamol or any of the other ingredients.Particular caution is required in cases of chronic alcohol abuse, liver or kidney dysfunction, and certain diseases that may be associated with reduced glutathione levels.

Side effects

Like all medicines, ben-u-ron can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include allergic reactions, changes in blood counts and rare cases of liver damage.If you experience side effects, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Interactions

Interactions are possible with medicines for gout, sleeping pills, medicines for epilepsy, medicines for tuberculosis, medicines for lowering high blood lipid levels, medicines for HIV-infections and medicines for nausea.Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, ben-u-ron should only be taken after carefully weighing the benefit-risk ratio.Paracetamol passes into breast milk during breastfeeding, but no adverse effects on the infant have been reported.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the container.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
