Phytohustil cough suppressant syrup contains the active ingredient marshmallow root extract.This herbal medicine is used for irritation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat as well as the associated dry, irritating cough.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

The syrup is used for dry coughs as a result of inflammation in the mouth and throat as well as for irritation of the mucous membranes in these areas.If you have symptoms that last longer than three days or recur periodically, or if you have a fever, you should see a doctor.

Dosage, type and duration of use

Unless otherwise prescribed, Phytohustil cough suppressant syrup is taken daily using the enclosed measuring cup:

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over: 3 to 6 times 10ml each

Children from 6 to 12 years: 5 times 5ml

Children from 3 to 6 years: 4 times 4ml

Children from 1 to 3 years: 4 times 3ml

The syrup can also be taken more frequently if necessary.Before swallowing, it should be held in the mouth and throat for as long as possible.If possible, you should not eat or drink anything for 30 minutes after taking it.The duration of application is in principle not limited, but the information under “Areas of application” should be observed.

Notes and information on the shelf life of the drug

Phytohustil cough suppressant syrup should not be stored above +25 °C.After opening the container, the syrup has a shelf life of 3 months.The medicinal product must not be used after the expiry date stated on the container and the outer packaging.

Composition

Active ingredient: Marshmallow root extract (2.33 g).Excipients: Ethanol 90% (V/V), methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, sucrose (4.2 g).

Mode of action

The ingredients of the medicine come from the marshmallow plant and work as a natural mixture.The mucus contained in marshmallow forms a protective layer over irritated mucous membranes, relieves dry coughs and can protect the stomach lining from too much acid.An anti-inflammatory effect has also been shown in animal experiments.

Contraindications

The medicine should not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients.It generally should not be used in infants under 1 year of age.Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain as well as skin hypersensitivity reactions such as itching and inflammatory reactions.If you experience any discomfort or changes during treatment, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Important notes

The medicine must be stored away from heat.After opening or preparation, it may be used for a maximum of 3 months and must be stored at room temperature.
