Instructions for use of potassium permanganate solution 1% SR

No prescription is required for this product.It is an antiseptic and disinfectant used to reduce germs on the skin and to make baths, rinses and compresses.

Areas of application

The potassium permanganate solution 1% SR is used to reduce germs on the skin.It is also used to prepare baths, rinses and compresses.

Contraindications

Potassium permanganate solution should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to potassium permanganate.Individuals with methemoglobin reductase insufficiency may develop severe methemoglobinemia from potassium permanganate.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be avoided as safety has not been proven.

Precautions and warnings

The undiluted solution can be irritating and corrosive and should therefore only be used in the specified dilutions.Concentrates accidentally applied must be rinsed off with plenty of water.Potassium permanganate can leave stains that can be removed with ascorbic acid solution.

Dosage instructions

The solution is diluted with drinking water and used for skin application, rinses, compresses and baths.A 0.001 percent solution is prepared by diluting 1 ml of concentrated solution (20 drops) with 1 liter of drinking water.For a foot bath, 5 ml of concentrated solution (1 teaspoon) are diluted with 5 liters of drinking water.For a full bath, add 100 ml of solution concentrate to 100 liters of drinking water.The diluted solution must be freshly prepared and should be used 2-3 times daily for a maximum of 30 minutes.It should not be used for longer than 14 days unless a doctor decides otherwise.

Overdose and application errors

Any solution accidentally applied should be rinsed off with plenty of water.Accidental ingestion can cause burns to the oral mucosa.For larger quantities, medical attention should be sought.In acute cases, vomiting can be induced and milk can be drunk to reduce absorption.

Interactions

Potassium permanganate solution should not be mixed with other solutions as inactivation of the reactants and loss of effectiveness may occur.

Side effects

Solutions containing 0.5% or more potassium permanganate can cause irritation and corrosive damage to the mucous membrane, associated with a brown discoloration.If other side effects are observed, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Durability and storage

The medicine should no longer be used after the expiry date.After opening it can be used for 6 months.It must be protected from light and kept out of the reach of children.

Composition

100 g of solution concentrate contains 1.0 g of potassium permanganate as an active ingredient and purified water as an additional ingredient.
