Helixor® is an anthroposophic medicine that is used for the extended treatment of tumor diseases.It contains an extract of fresh mistletoe, which, depending on the product variant, is made from pine mistletoe, apple tree mistletoe or pine mistletoe.The solution for injection is prepared with water for injections and sodium chloride as an extractant.

Areas of application

Helixor® is used in adults in accordance with anthroposophical knowledge of humanity and nature.It serves to stimulate form and integration forces to dissolve and reintegrate independent growth processes.These include malignant and benign tumor diseases, also with accompanying disorders of the blood-forming organs, defined precancerous lesions and the prevention of relapses after tumor operations.

Active ingredients and composition

The solution for injection contains an extract of fresh mistletoe in various concentrations.The amount of fresh plant used to make one ampoule is given in milligrams.The extractants are water for injections and sodium chloride.The other ingredients include table salt, sodium hydroxide and, at certain concentrations, additional water for injection purposes.

Application and dosage

Helixor® is injected subcutaneously, if possible in the vicinity of the tumor or metastases, otherwise in different locations of the intact skin.The usual dose is 2 to 3 injections per week.Therapy begins with an induction phase in which the dose is gradually increased until maintenance therapy is achieved.The optimal dose must be determined individually and depends on the patient's reactions.

A reduction in dose may be necessary during radiation or chemotherapy.The maintenance phase involves rhythmic application in order to avoid habituation effects.This can be done by alternating doses with lower doses, rhythmizing the injection intervals and adding breaks.

Side effects and precautions

Possible side effects include a slight increase in body temperature, localized inflammatory reactions around the injection site, and temporary mild swelling of regional lymph nodes.If there is a fever over 38 °C or major local reactions over 5 cm in diameter, the next injection should only be given after these symptoms have subsided and at a reduced strength or dose.

Helixor® must not be used if you are hypersensitive to mistletoe preparations, suffer from an acute inflammatory or high fever illness, have chronic granulomatous diseases or autoimmune diseases with severe symptoms, or are under immunosuppressive treatment.The product should also not be used if you have an overactive thyroid with a racing heart.

Storage

Helixor® should be kept out of the reach of children.The ampoules must be stored in the original packaging to protect the contents from light.Helixor® 0.01 mg and 0.1 mg should be stored in a refrigerator, while Helixor® 1 mg to 100 mg should not be stored above 30 °C.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the ampoule and box.
