The mistletoe extract is injected under the skin (subcutaneously), usually in a fold of skin on the stomach or thigh.Typically three injections are given per week.Long-term use over several months is recommended, with breaks of several weeks after the adjustment period.

Side effects of mistletoe therapy

The body can react to mistletoe therapy with reddened puncture sites (sometimes with swelling or itching) and a slight increase in body temperature (0.5 to 1 degree Celsius).These reactions are harmless and show the activity of the immune system.

If you have a fever over 38 degrees Celsius or severe redness at the injection site that is more than 5 centimeters in diameter, you should not inject the next dose of mistletoe.If you have allergic reactions such as hives, facial swelling or shortness of breath, please contact your doctor.
