Nystaderm® mouth gel - therapy for oral thrush

Oral thrush is a common disease in infancy and toddlerhood that is caused by yeast and affects the oral mucosa.In severe cases, the infection can also spread to the mucous membrane of the throat.Nystaderm® oral gel offers an effective treatment for this fungal infection.

The active ingredient in Nystaderm® oral gel is nystatin, an antifungal agent that is specifically effective against yeast infections.The oral gel has a pleasant raspberry flavor and adheres well to the oral cavity, which means it has a local effect on the oral mucosa.It is suitable for infants from 4 months and toddlers.

Area of application

Nystaderm® Mundgel is a yeast-specific antimycotic that is used for nystatin-sensitive yeast infections of the oral cavity (oral thrush).If symptoms do not improve after 7 days or even worsen, a doctor should be consulted.

Nystaderm® oral gel contains the following active ingredients and excipients:

100,000 IU nystatin, glycerol, hyetellose, sucrose, purified water, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, raspberry flavor.

Contraindications

The oral gel must not be used if you are allergic to nystatin, related active ingredients such as amphotericin B or natamycin, or any of the other ingredients.There is no experience with use in patients being treated with cytostatics.

Dosage

The recommended dose is:

Adults and children aged 2 years and over should take the oral gel 3-6 times a day, in severe cases every 2 hours, 1 gram (1 measuring spoon) each.For newborns and small children, it makes sense to put 1/2 to 1 gram into the oral cavity before and after a meal to optimize the effect.

Treatment should be continued for at least 2 days after the symptoms have subsided, but not longer than 28 days.In the event of an overdose, no serious side effects are to be expected since absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is negligible.

Intake

The oral gel is taken, left in the mouth for a few minutes and then swallowed.In addition, the affected areas can be rubbed with a cotton swab onto which the oral gel has been applied.Even in newborns and small children, you should aim for the gel to remain in the mouth for as long as possible.

Patient information

It is recommended to speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine.Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended.There is no experience with regard to impairment of the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.In therapeutic doses, nystatin is hardly absorbed via the intact skin or mucous membranes after oral administration and does not cross the placental barrier.It is also not expected to pass into breast milk.

No prescription is required for this product.Contains parabens E 216 and E 218 and sucrose (sugar).Contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium per 1 g.Contains a flavor with cinnamaldehyde, propylene glycol, geraniol, citronellol, linalool and ethanol.This medicine contains 0.0005 mg alcohol (ethanol) per g.
