Nystaderm® mouth gel - therapy for oral thrush

Oral thrush is a common disease in infants and young children that is caused by yeast and can spread to the oral mucosa.Nystaderm® oral gel offers an effective treatment for this fungal infection.The active ingredient nystatin specifically fights yeast and helps eliminate the infection.The oral gel has a pleasant raspberry flavor and is particularly suitable for use in the oral cavity.

Area of application

Nystaderm® Mundgel is a yeast-specific antifungal that is used for nystatin-sensitive yeast infections of the oral cavity, also known as oral thrush.If symptoms do not improve after seven days or even worsen, a doctor should be consulted.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

Nystaderm® oral gel contains the active ingredient nystatin in a concentration of 100,000 IU per gram. The excipients include glycerol, hyetellose, sucrose, purified water, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and raspberry flavor.The aroma contains cinnamaldehyde, propylene glycol, geraniol, citronellol, linalool and ethanol.The medicine contains 0.0005 mg of alcohol (ethanol) per gram.

Contraindications

Nystaderm® oral gel must not be used if there is an allergy to nystatin, related active ingredients such as amphotericin B or natamycin, or any of the other ingredients of the drug.There is no experience with use in patients being treated with cytostatics.

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults and children from two years of age is 1 gram of gel, which corresponds to one measuring spoon, 3 to 6 times a day, in severe cases every 2 hours.For newborns and small children, it is recommended to place half a scoop of gel into the oral cavity before and after a meal.Treatment should be continued for at least two days after the symptoms have subsided, but not longer than 28 days.

Intake

The oral gel is taken, left in the mouth for a few minutes and then swallowed.In addition, the affected areas can be rubbed with a cotton swab onto which the oral gel has been applied.Even in newborns and small children, the gel should remain in the mouth for as long as possible.

Patient information

Before using the medicine you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist.Its use is not recommended for very underweight and immature premature babies.There is no experience with regard to impairment of the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.In therapeutic doses, nystatin is hardly absorbed via the intact skin or mucous membranes after oral administration and does not cross the placental barrier.It is also not expected to pass into breast milk.The oral gel can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding after weighing the benefits/risks.
