Recessan ointment is a medicinal product used for the temporary, symptomatic treatment of painful inflammatory conditions of the gums and oral mucosa. The ointment contains the active substance lauromacrogol 400 (polidocanol) in a concentration of 30 mg/g. It is recommended to apply the medicine about the size of a pea to the affected areas in the oral cavity without massaging it in. In the case of dentures, the ointment can also be applied to the cleaned and still moist denture. After application, do not eat or drink for one hour, as the ointment forms an adhesive film that could be worn off prematurely. The dosage recommendation is to use a pea-sized amount 3 times a day. The medicine must not be used in case of hypersensitivity to lauromacrogol 400 (polidocanol) or to any of the other ingredients. During pregnancy and lactation, the benefits and risks of use should be carefully weighed up, as insufficient data are available. Side effects are rare and may include allergic hypersensitivity reactions, taste disturbances and burning sensation. The exact composition of the ointment can be found in the package leaflet.
