Summary: Limes are citrus fruits with green skin and sour, aromatic flesh. Originally from Southeast Asia, they are now cultivated in the tropics, Africa and Central America. The fruits are juicier than lemons and are characterised by an intense aroma. They are often called "lemons of the tropics" and are a popular ingredient in cocktails as well as in Mexican and Southeast Asian cuisine. Lime oil is obtained by cold pressing the peel and is suitable for room fragrancing. It is important to follow the manufacturer's warnings as the oil is flammable and can cause skin irritation. It is also toxic to aquatic organisms and must not be used undiluted.
