Betaseptic Mundipharma® solution for use on the skin
Betaseptic® is a germicidal agent used to disinfect the skin before various medical procedures such as surgeries, injections, biopsies, punctures and blood draws.However, it is not suitable for use on mucous membranes or open wounds.No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
The solution contains 32.4 mg povidone-iodine, which corresponds to 3.24 mg iodine, as well as 389 mg isopropanol and 389 mg ethanol 96% (v/v) as excipients.No other components are included.
Area of application
Betaseptic® is used for skin disinfection before operations, injections, biopsies, punctures and blood samples.It is not intended for use on mucous membranes or open wounds.
Application
The solution is applied undiluted to the skin.Depending on the procedure, the exposure time is 15 seconds to 10 minutes.The skin should be kept moist throughout the entire exposure time.If necessary, the solution can be applied several times.After drying, an antiseptic, air-permeable film forms that can be easily washed off with water.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to povidone-iodine, 2-propanol or ethanol, if you have an overactive thyroid or another existing thyroid disease, if you suffer from the chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, before, during and after the use of radio-iodine as part of radiotherapy or a diagnostic examination, if you are simultaneously using preparations containing mercury or if you are newborns, infants and young childrenare a year.
Dosage
The recommended exposure time is 15 seconds before simple injections and punctures, at least 1 minute before major operations and punctures and at least 10 minutes before punctures and operations on skin rich in sebaceous glands.If necessary, the preparation can be applied several times.The application generally takes place once.If used multiple times, thyroid function should be monitored.
Intake
The solution is intended for external use on the skin, but not on mucous membranes and wounds.It is not suitable for ingestion or intravenous administration.The preparation is used undiluted and can be applied once or multiple times.The skin should be kept moist with the undiluted preparation throughout the entire exposure time.The solution should be applied to the area to be treated until it is completely wetted.When it dries, an antiseptic, air-permeable film forms that can be easily washed out with water.
Patient information
The solution is highly flammable.Before using electrical devices, the solution should be allowed to dry completely.Using the product may cause temporary skin discoloration.In the case of thyroid disease or goiter, the solution should only be used over a long period of time and over large areas if the doctor has expressly instructed you to do so.Even after stopping use, attention should be paid to early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism.Older people and patients with impaired kidney function should only use the product after express instructions from their doctor.Children should have their thyroid function checked after use.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the preparation should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the solution by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the nursing mother's body must be avoided.
