Directions for use of the article Iodinate 100 µg Tablets Iodinate® 100 µg Tablets contain the active ingredient potassium iodide and are used to prevent iodine-deficiency goitre, especially during pregnancy and breast-feeding. They are also used for recurrence prophylaxis after thyroid hormone therapy or surgery for iodine deficiency goitre and for the treatment of iodine deficiency goitre in newborns, children and adolescents. An insufficient iodine supply can lead to a reduced formation of thyroid hormones and the development of a goitre, even in the unborn child. Iodinate® can compensate for this insufficient iodine supply. The recommended dosage depends on the dietary iodine supply and the reason for taking it. In general, the following dosage recommendations apply: - Infants and children: 50 - 100 micrograms of iodine/day. - Adolescents and adults: 100 - 200 micrograms iodine/day - Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers: 100 - 200 micrograms iodine/day The tablet can be divided into equal doses. The duration of treatment varies depending on the reason for taking it. Long-term intake is required to prevent goitre growth. For goitre treatment in newborns, the duration is usually 2-4 weeks, in children, adolescents and adults 6-12 months or longer. Iodinate® tablets should be taken after a meal with some liquid.
