Area of application

This preparation contains levocarnitine, an L-amino acid derivative used to treat carnitine deficiency in patients suffering from such deficiency due to dialysis treatment.This condition is called dialysis-related carnitine disorder (DCD).

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The preparation contains the following active ingredients and excipients: 1 g levocarnitine, concentrated hydrochloric acid as an excipient, 480 mg sorbitol 70 as an excipient, purified water as an excipient, 3 mg methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate as an excipient and 1.7 mg propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate as an excipient.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to levocarnitine or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.The usual dose is 1 g levocarnitine (3.3 ml solution) per day.On days with hemodialysis treatment, the preparation should be taken after dialysis treatment.The doctor decides on the duration of use.

If you have taken a larger amount than intended, no serious reactions are to be expected and no special measures are required.

If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

If you stop taking it, no serious reactions are expected.

No prescription is required for this product.

Intake

The preparation is available as an oral solution.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the solution.The response to treatment should be checked by your doctor at three-month intervals.If your condition does not improve within 9 to 12 months, therapy should be stopped.

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before you start taking this medicine.

No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

There are no sufficient data on the use of levocarnitine in pregnancy.The possible risk to humans is unknown.If you are pregnant, you should only use the product if your doctor decides that it is absolutely necessary.

Levocarnitine is a natural component of breast milk.However, there are no studies on the use of levocarnitine in breastfeeding women.If you are breast-feeding, your doctor will decide whether you should be given the product, taking into account the benefit to you and the possible risk to your child.
