Kreon for children granules is a medicine used to treat digestive disorders due to insufficient pancreatic function (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) and cystic fibrosis. The enteric-coated pellets contain an enzyme mixture of porcine pancreatic powder with amylase, lipase and protease activity to aid digestion. The dosage depends on the severity of the digestive weakness and is determined by the doctor. The pellets are taken during or after a meal and should not be crushed or chewed. Side effects are usually abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea and nausea/vomiting. An overdose can lead to an increase in uric acid in the blood and urine. The drug should be protected from moisture and stored at room temperature. It is available without prescription, but should be used in consultation with a doctor. A doctor or pharmacist should be consulted if there are any further questions or if side effects occur.
