Description of the drug

This medicine contains a mixture of enzymes called pancreas powder.The pancreas powder supports digestion by using enzymes from pig pancreas.The small, enteric-coated pellets slowly release the pancreas powder into the intestine.This preparation is particularly suitable for children and young children who cannot swallow capsules and is used when low doses of pancreas powder and particularly small pellets are required.

Areas of application

The medicine is used for digestive disorders (maldigestion) caused by inadequate or missing pancreatic function (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).It is also used to support inadequate pancreatic function in cystic fibrosis.

Mode of action

The enzymes in this supplement digest food as it passes through the gastrointestinal tract.It is recommended to take the medicine during or immediately after a meal or snack to allow the enzymes to mix thoroughly with the food.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The medicine contains 60.12 mg of porcine pancreas powder, which has the following enzyme activities: 5000 PhEur-E triacylglycerol lipase, 3600 PhEur-E amylase and 200 PhEur-E proteases.In addition, it contains the excipients cetyl alcohol, Dimeticon 1000, hypromellose phthalate, macrogol 4000, triethyl citrate and 1 mmol total sodium ion.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if there is proven hypersensitivity to pork or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

Dosage

The dosage is measured in lipase units and depends on the severity of the disease, weight, diet and fat content in the stool.The amount prescribed by the doctor is measured using the measuring spoon provided.For patients with cystic fibrosis, the usual starting dose for children under 4 years of age is 1000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal and for children 4 years and older is 500 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.For adolescents and adults, weight-based enzyme dosage begins at 500 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.The total daily dose should not exceed certain limits.

Intake

The preparation should always be taken during or immediately after a meal or snack.The pellets can be mixed with a small amount of a soft, acidic food or acidic liquid and swallowed immediately without crushing or chewing.Care should be taken to ensure that no pellets remain in the mouth and that sufficient fluids are consumed.
