About oak bark

Oak bark is obtained from the bark of young branches of the English oak (Quercus robur), harvested in spring and dried.It is rich in tannins, which have an astringent effect.This property makes them useful in the external treatment of inflamed skin and itching.Used internally, oak bark can relieve inflamed mucous membranes and diarrhea.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Oak bark is used internally for non-specific, acute diarrheal diseases as well as for mild inflammations in the mouth, throat, genital and anal areas.Externally, it promotes the formation of scabs in inflammatory skin diseases.

Application

For internal use for diarrhea, it is recommended to drink a cup of tea twice a day.To do this, half a teaspoon of oak bark (approx. 1.5 g) is poured with around 150 ml of water, heated to boiling for 10 to 15 minutes and then passed through a tea strainer.

For rinsing, gargling and poultices, an infusion is made from 2 g of oak bark and about 100 ml of water, which is also heated to a boil for 10 to 15 minutes and then strained through a tea strainer.

For full and partial baths, 5 g of oak bark is used in 1 liter of water or a multiple thereof.

100 g of medicinal tea contains the active ingredient oak bark (100 g).Other components are not included.

Notes

If diarrhea lasts longer than 2 days or is accompanied by blood or an increase in temperature, a doctor should be consulted.This also applies to diarrhea in infants and small children.A doctor should also be consulted if there is mild inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat that lasts longer than 1 week, recurs or causes unclear symptoms.If the edges of the wound are severely red, or if the wounds are large, weeping or infected with purulence, a doctor should be consulted.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
