Area of application

HIRUDOID® FORTE Gel is used for the local treatment of blunt injuries (trauma) with and without bruising (hematoma) as well as for superficial phlebitis, provided these cannot be treated with external pressure (compression).

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to chondroitin polysulfate or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Do not use the medicine on open wounds or broken skin.

Dosage

Apply HIRUDOID® FORTE Gel to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily, or more frequently if necessary.Depending on the size of the area to be treated, a gel strand of 3 to 5 cm is generally sufficient.The primary treatment measure for superficial phlebitis of the lower extremities is external pressure (compression treatment).

Type of application

Application on the skin.Apply HIRUDOID® FORTE gel evenly to the affected area and spread it lightly.Use HIRUDOID® FORTE gel only on uninjured skin, avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes as well as with open wounds or broken skin.As with all alcohol-containing gels, you should not cover the area treated with HIRUDOID® FORTE Gel with a bandage. HIRUDOID® FORTE Gel is also suitable for physical treatment processes such as iontophoresis and phonophoresis.During iontophoresis, the gel is applied under the cathode.

Pregnancy

Previous experience with the local use of chondroitin polysulfate on the skin of pregnant and breastfeeding women has shown no evidence of harmful effects on the unborn child or infant.
