Pancreatin Mikro-ratiopharm is used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.This is when the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to digest food.Pancreas powder is also called pancreatin.It supports digestion.Pancreatin Mikro-ratiopharm contains small gastro-resistant microfilm tablets that slowly release the pancreas powder into the intestine.

195.2 mg of porcine pancreas powder, corresponding to 20,000 Ph.Eur. units of lipase, at least 15,000 Ph.Eur. units of amylase and at least 900 Ph.Eur. units of protease per capsule.The other ingredients are crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose, highly disperse silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer dispersion, polysorbate 80, water, triethyl citrate, talc, simeticon emulsion, montan glycol wax, gelatin, titanium dioxide, iron oxides and hydroxides, sodium dodecyl sulfate.

Area of application

This preparation is a mixture of digestive enzymes obtained from pig pancreas.The medicine is used to replace digestive enzymes in digestive disorders due to inadequate or no pancreatic function.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to porcine pancreas powder, pork or any of the other ingredients.It must also not be taken in cases of acute pancreatitis or acute attacks of chronic pancreatitis.In the dietary build-up phase when an acute inflammatory attack subsides, it may be useful to take it if a digestive disorder still exists.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.The treatment aims to achieve or maintain a normal body weight and to normalize the frequency and consistency of bowel movements.The dosage depends on the severity of the pancreatic disease.As a general guideline dose, a lipase content of 20,000 - 40,000 Ph.Eur. units per meal is recommended.

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is 1 - 2 hard capsules per meal.The required dose may also be higher.The dose should only be increased under medical supervision.A daily enzyme dose of 15,000 - 20,000 units of lipase per kg of body weight should not be exceeded.

Do not take capsules while lying down.Take the medicine whole with plenty of liquid during meals.Make sure to swallow the preparation whole, as the effectiveness of the medicine can be reduced if chewed and the enzymes it contains can damage the mucous membrane when released into the oral cavity.You should drink plenty of fluids.

The duration of use depends on the course of the disease and is determined by the doctor.Do not take this medicine for more than a few days without medical advice.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

If you suffer from cystic fibrosis and therefore receive high doses of pig pancreas powder, there is a possibility that intestinal strictures may form in individual cases.These narrowings can potentially lead to an intestinal obstruction.The following symptoms can indicate an intestinal obstruction: nausea and vomiting, flatulence with stool and wind retention, colicky pain, belching, and later possibly vomiting of feces.If you experience such symptoms, you must seek medical treatment immediately.

If you suffer from diabetes mellitus and are therefore taking blood sugar-lowering drugs that belong to the group of glucosidase inhibitors, then these drugs should not be taken at the same time as this preparation, but rather at different times.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
