Pancreatin Mikro-ratiopharm® 20,000 - gastric juice-resistant hard capsules

Pancreatin Mikro-ratiopharm is used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.In this case, the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to digest food.Pancreas powder, also called pancreatin, supports digestion.The preparation contains small enteric-coated microfilm tablets that slowly release the pancreas powder into the intestine.No prescription is required for this product.

Each hard capsule contains 195.2 mg of porcine pancreas powder, corresponding to 20,000 Ph.Eur. units of lipase, at least 15,000 Ph.Eur. units of amylase and at least 900 Ph.Eur. units of protease.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: cellulose, microcrystalline, crospovidone, iron (III) hydroxide oxide x-water, iron oxides, Eudragit L 30 D-55, gelatin, magnesium stearate, montan glycol wax, sodium dodecyl sulfate, silicon dioxide, highly disperse, simeticone, talc, titanium dioxide and triethyl citrate.

Area of application

This preparation is a mixture of digestive enzymes obtained from pig pancreas.It is used to replace digestive enzymes in digestive disorders (maldigestion) due to insufficient or missing pancreatic function (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.The treatment aims to achieve or maintain a normal body weight and to normalize the frequency and consistency of bowel movements.The dosage depends on the severity of the pancreatic disease.As a general guideline dose, a lipase content of 20,000 - 40,000 Ph.Eur. units per meal is recommended.Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is 1 - 2 hard capsules per meal.The required dose can also be higher, but should only be increased under medical supervision.A daily enzyme dose of 15,000 - 20,000 units of lipase per kg of body weight should not be exceeded.

Take the medicine whole with plenty of liquid (water, juice) during meals.Capsules should not be taken while lying down.The duration of use depends on the course of the disease and is determined by the doctor.Do not take this medicine for more than a few days without medical or dental advice.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

Intake

Patient information

Particular care is required when taking it as the medicine contains active enzymes that, when released into the oral cavity, e.g.B. by chewing, can lead to damage to the mucous membrane.It is therefore important to ensure that the medicine is swallowed whole.If you suffer from cystic fibrosis and therefore take high doses of pork pancreas powder, there is a possibility that intestinal strictures may form in individual cases.If you suffer from diabetes mellitus and are taking blood sugar-lowering drugs that belong to the group of glucosidase inhibitors, these drugs should not be taken at the same time, but rather at different times.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to pork pancreas powder, pork or any of the other ingredients.It must also not be taken in cases of acute pancreatitis or acute attacks of chronic pancreatitis.On the other hand, taking the drug during the dietary build-up phase when an acute inflammatory episode has subsided can be useful if a digestive disorder still or continues to exist.
