The preparation binds phosphate from food and allows it to be excreted in the stool.It is used to reduce elevated phosphate levels in the blood and in chronic kidney failure with dialysis indicated.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient of this preparation is calcium diacetate in an amount of 950 mg per film-coated tablet, which corresponds to 240.73 mg calcium ions.In addition, it contains various excipients such as carboxymethyl starch, sodium salt type A, croscarmellose, sodium salt, gelatin, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, corn starch, refined castor oil, saccharin, sodium salt, sucrose, talc and orange flavor as well as bergamot oil.The total amount of sodium ions in the excipients is 23 mg per film-coated tablet.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium acetate or any of the ingredients mentioned.The preparation should also not be used if there are low phosphate concentrations in the blood, increased calcium concentrations in the blood or if there is increased excretion of calcium in the urine, combined with calcium-containing kidney stones.Furthermore, it is not suitable for decalcifying tumors and secondary ulcers in the bones, severe kidney failure without dialysis treatment, constipation, known colon strictures or abnormal bone decalcification as a result of long-term lack of exercise.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.The recommended dose for adults is half to one film-coated tablet for breakfast and a snack, one to three film-coated tablets for the main meal and one to two film-coated tablets for dinner.The dosage should be adjusted individually based on the amount of food consumed and therefore the amount of phosphate consumed.

Intake

The preparation should be taken during or immediately after a meal.The tablets must be swallowed whole and with a little liquid.Please follow the instructions for use so that the medicine can work as expected.

Patient information

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.The likelihood of hypercalcemia is increased in pregnant women who take calcium and vitamin D at the same time.
