Softasept N colored is an alcoholic skin disinfectant that is used to disinfect the skin before surgical procedures, punctures and injections.The active ingredients in this preparation are ethanol with a proportion of 74.1% and 2-propanol (Ph. Eur.) with a proportion of 10%.The solution also contains purified water, povidone K 30, citric acid and the dyes yellow orange S (E 110) and azorubine (E 122).

Precautions and Warnings

Softasept N colored must not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to ethanol, 2-propanol or any of the other ingredients.Particular caution is required to avoid skin irritation.The solution must be able to dry freely from the skin after application.Due to the alcohol content, occlusive conditions can cause skin irritation.The skin must be allowed to dry before using electrical devices.

Softasept N colored is highly flammable and can easily be ignited by sparks, burning cigarettes, open flames and other ignition sources.If larger quantities are accidentally spilled, there is a risk of fire and explosion.In such cases, preventative measures should be taken immediately, such as absorbing the liquid, diluting it with plenty of water, ventilating the room and eliminating sources of ignition.

The preparation should only be used externally.If accidentally ingested, symptoms of poisoning due to the alcohol contained can occur, with the risk of respiratory arrest or loss of consciousness.Seek medical advice immediately and only induce vomiting if directed by a doctor.Softasept N colored is irritating to the eyes and mucous membranes.Do not get into eyes and do not use on broken skin or mucous membranes.In case of accidental contact with eyes or mucous membranes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

Application

Softasept N colored is applied undiluted and rubbed in with a sterile swab.The area of skin to be treated must be completely wetted and kept moist throughout the entire exposure time.After the prescribed exposure time, the skin must be allowed to dry and excess solution is dabbed off.

The exposure times vary depending on skin type.For skin with few sebaceous glands, the exposure time is at least 15 seconds before injections and punctures and at least 1 minute before joint punctures, punctures of the cerebrospinal fluid space and before operations.For skin rich in sebaceous glands (e.g. on the head, above the breastbone, between the shoulder blades), the exposure time before all procedures is at least 2.5 minutes.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Softasept N colored can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.Particularly with frequent use, skin irritations such as redness and burning can occur.Contact allergies are also possible.If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the label.After opening the container, Softasept N colored can be used for 12 months, but not beyond the expiry date.Do not throw away the medicine via wastewater or household waste.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine if you no longer need it.
