Mode of action

Maintaining or acidifying the vaginal environment with lactic acid supports the growth of bacteria typical of the vagina (lactic acid-producing bacteria) and has an unfavorable effect on the growth of pathogens in the vaginal area.Lactofem® lactic acid vaginal suppositories can therefore be used as a preventive measure if you are prone to vaginal infections and as a supplement to medical treatment of vaginal infections.

The vaginal suppositories contain (S)-lactic acid, sodium (S)-lactate solution, Macrogol 1500 and Macrogol 6000.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, this product should not be used.

Dosage

The recommended dosage is one vaginal suppository once daily in the evening before bed.To regularly maintain a normal pH value in the vagina, the vaginal suppositories can also be used two to three times a week over a longer period of time.

Application

A vaginal suppository is inserted deep into the vagina once a day, preferably while lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.To prevent premature expulsion of the vaginal suppository, it should be used in the evening before going to bed.During use, a watery discharge may occur due to the good solubility of the vaginal suppositories, so it is advisable to use a panty liner.The vaginal suppositories are generally used over five to seven days.

Notes

Simultaneous use with condoms should be avoided as this can lead to a reduction in tear resistance and thereby compromise safety.It is not advisable to use Lactofem® lactic acid vaginal suppositories during period bleeding.If vaginal symptoms worsen during use or do not improve within eight days, you should stop using the product and seek medical advice.If you suspect bacterial vaginosis or acute vaginal infections, you should consult a doctor before use to clarify the symptoms and provide appropriate treatment.Treatment with a drug or additional treatment for the partner may be necessary.
