Directions for use of the article Hawthorn-ratiopharm film-coated tablets Hawthorn-ratiopharm® is a herbal medicinal product for the treatment of cardiac insufficiency (moderate) according to stage II of the NYHA. It contains the active substance hawthorn leaf-with-flower dry extract (4-7 : 1) with a dosage of 450 mg per film-coated tablet. The film-coated tablets are used in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over. It is recommended to read the package leaflet carefully and to take the medicine according to the instructions of the doctor or pharmacist. Before taking Hawthorn-ratiopharm®, certain contraindications should be observed. The medicinal product must not be taken if there is an allergy to dry extract of hawthorn leaves with flowers or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product. In the case of certain symptoms of illness such as pain in the heart region, radiation to the arms, the upper abdomen or the neck region and shortness of breath, immediate medical attention must be sought. Further information on taking the medicinal product during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be discussed in advance with the doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dosage for adolescents from 12 years of age and adults is 1 film-coated tablet 2 times daily, regardless of the meal. The film-coated tablets should be taken unchewed with sufficient liquid. The duration of use should not be longer than 6 weeks without medical advice. A doctor should be consulted in case of side effects or uncertainty regarding the intake. Side effects from taking Hawthorn-ratiopharm® are rare and may include gastrointestinal discomfort, feeling weak or skin rash. If side effects persist, a doctor should be consulted. An overdose of the medicinal product is not known. If the dose is forgotten, it should be continued at the next time without taking twice the amount. Hawthorn-ratiopharm® contains 450 mg dry extract of hawthorn leaves with flowers (4-7 : 1) as the medicinally active ingredient. Other ingredients include maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, cellulose, croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate. The medicine should be stored away from heat and is available in packs of 50 and 100 film-coated tablets. Important information: Caution should be exercised if allergic to binders.
