Myrtol is a herbal medicinal product for loosening mucus in the respiratory tract. It is used to loosen mucus and facilitate expectoration in acute and chronic bronchitis and inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis). It can be used by adults, adolescents and children from 6 years of age. The medicine contains sorbitol. The package leaflet should be read before taking the medicine. Myrtol contains distilled eucalyptus oil, sweet orange oil, myrtle oil and lemon oil. It activates the natural self-cleansing powers in the respiratory tract and loosens mucus. Myrtol can relieve a variety of cold symptoms and shorten the duration of illness. A specific dosage is recommended, which varies according to age and clinical picture. Sufficient liquid should be used when taking the medicine and the last dose can be taken before going to bed. The duration of treatment depends on the symptoms. Possible side effects are stomach or upper abdominal pain, allergic reactions, inflammation of the stomach or intestinal mucosa, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, changes in taste, headache or dizziness. In case of severe side effects, the medicine should be stopped and a doctor should be consulted. The medicinal product should be kept out of reach of children and protected from moisture. It must not be used after the expiry date. Myrtol contains 120 mg of the special distillate ELOM-080 based on rectified eucalyptus oil, sweet orange oil, myrtle oil and lemon oil.
