Areas of application

Fipralone 67 mg spot-on solution for small dogs (S) is used to treat flea and tick infestations in dogs.The active ingredient fipronil shows insecticidal activity against fleas for up to 8 weeks and acaricidal activity against ticks for up to 4 weeks.The product can also be used to control flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) if previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.

Composition

One pipette of Fipralone contains 67 mg of fipronil in 0.67 ml of solution.In addition, the solution contains the excipients butylhydroxyanisole E320 (0.134 mg per pipette) and butylhydroxytoluene E321 (0.067 mg per pipette).

Contraindications

Fipralone should not be used in puppies under 2 months of age or weighing less than 2 kg.The product must also not be used on sick or recovering animals, rabbits and cats.In addition, it should not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients.

Side effects

If the animal licks the solution, increased salivation may occur.Occasionally, temporary skin reactions may occur at the application site, such as skin discoloration, local hair loss, itching or redness of the skin.In rare cases, general itching, hair loss, increased salivation, neurological symptoms, vomiting or breathing problems have also been observed.

Dosage and application

Fipralone is used externally.The dosage depends on the dog's body weight: 1 pipette of 0.67 ml for dogs between 2 and 10 kg, 1 pipette of 1.34 ml for dogs between 10 and 20 kg, 1 pipette of 2.68 ml for dogs between 20 and 40 kg, 1 pipette of 4.02 ml for dogs between 40 and 60 kg and two pipettes of 2.68 ml for dogs over60kg.The solution is dripped onto the skin after the fur has been parted.Care should be taken to ensure that the animal does not lick off the solution.

Instructions for use

To optimally eliminate a flea and/or tick infestation, the treatment plan should be drawn up according to the epidemiological conditions on site.The minimum waiting time until the next treatment is 4 weeks.Bathing and intensive wetting should be avoided for two days after treatment.The product does not prevent ticks from infesting the animal, but kills them within 24-48 hours.

Storage and disposal

Fipralone should be kept out of the reach of children, stored at temperatures below 30°C and in a dry place.The veterinary medicinal product must not enter water bodies as it poses a danger to fish and other aquatic organisms.Unused veterinary medicines should preferably be disposed of at pollutant collection points.

Special precautions

Animals should be weighed carefully before treatment.Contact with the animal's eyes should be avoided.The veterinary medicinal product must not be used on wounds or skin lesions.Persons with known hypersensitivity to fipronil or any of the excipients should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.Dogs should not swim for the first two days after treatment.

Use during pregnancy or lactation

No studies have been conducted with this veterinary medicinal product in pregnant and lactating dogs.Use during pregnancy and lactation should only be carried out after a benefit-risk assessment by the treating veterinarian.
