Description of the preparation

This herbal medicine contains a dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves.It is used to improve quality of life and cognitive abilities in mild forms of dementia that are age-related.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each film-coated tablet contains 240 mg ginkgo leaf dry extract, which is obtained with 60% acetone as an extractant.The most important active ingredients are ginkgo flavonoid glycosides, ginkgolides A, B and C, bilobalides and ginkgolic acids.In addition, the preparation contains various excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium salt, iron (III) hydroxide oxide-x-water, spray-dried glucose syrup, lactose-1-water, macrogol 3350, magnesium stearate, poly(vinyl alcohol), highly disperse silicon dioxide, talc and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to Ginkgo biloba extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The product should also not be used during pregnancy.

Dosage and application

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.The recommended dose for adults and elderly patients is half a film-coated tablet twice daily, morning and evening.If taken once daily, this should be done in the morning or evening.The tablets are taken orally and swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

The treatment should last at least eight weeks.If there is no improvement in symptoms after three months or if the symptoms of the disease worsen, the doctor should consider continuing treatment.

There is no relevant indication for children and adolescents.There are no data on dosage in cases of impaired kidney or liver function.

Forgot to take it

Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.

Overdose

There are no known cases of overdose.However, in the event of an overdose, increased symptoms as described in the "Side effects" category may occur.If you have overdosed on ginkgo, contact your doctor or seek medical advice as you may need medical treatment.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have a history of bleeding, are taking blood-thinning medication, have epilepsy, are having surgery in the next three to four days or are taking efavirenz.Also talk to your doctor or pharmacist if symptoms worsen during treatment.

There have been no adequate studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.Your doctor will tell you whether your illness allows you to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Since there is some evidence that preparations containing ginkgo could increase the risk of bleeding, this medicine must not be taken during pregnancy.This medicine should not be used during breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.It is not known whether the ingredients of the extract pass into breast milk.
