Instructions for use for HERBION Ivy 7 mg/ml syrup, 150 ml

Herbion Ivy 7 mg/ml Syrup is a herbal medicinal product for loosening mucus in coughs with sputum. The active substance is ivy leaf dry extract. The syrup is used in children from 2 years of age and adults. The usual dose is 5 - 7.5 ml of syrup twice a day for adolescents from 12 years of age, adults and elderly patients. Children from 6 to 11 years of age take 5 ml of syrup twice daily, children from 2 to 5 years of age take 2.5 ml of syrup twice daily. Use in children under 2 years of age is not recommended. For risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist. The medicine may be used for a maximum of 3 months after opening and should be stored at room temperature. Contains sorbitol, sodium benzoate and a small amount of alcohol. Manufacturer: TAD Pharma GmbH.

Very good and inexpensive remedy as a generic of Prospan. However, ivy is not a cough suppressant, but a cough expectorant. Although the cough is initially alleviated, if the mucus is sufficiently loosened it becomes a riding cough, which must not be suppressed. The mucus must be cleared from the lungs. Ivy works effectively and is milder than NAC or ACC 600.
