Application

ANESDERM® is an anesthetic cream used before painful medical procedures.It is suitable for various procedures such as vaccinations, blood tests, injections on sensitive parts of the body, laser therapies or minor surgical procedures such as the removal of birthmarks.The cream ensures that these procedures can be carried out painlessly and stress-free.

The cream contains the active ingredients lidocaine and prilocaine, which belong to the group of local anesthetics.These active ingredients numb the surface of the skin for a short time by blocking the transmission of pain to the brain.The skin's sensitivity to pressure and touch can be retained.

ANESDERM® can be used in adults, adolescents and children.It is suitable for anesthetizing the skin before needle punctures, minor skin surgeries, cleaning or removing damaged skin for leg ulcers, and for anesthetizing the genitals before certain medical procedures.However, use on the genitals should be supervised by a doctor or healthcare professional.

The cream contains 25 mg lidocaine and 25 mg prilocaine per gram. It also contains the excipients carbomer 980, macrogol glycerol hydroxystearate, sodium hydroxide solution 10% and purified water.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine or similar local anesthetics or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

Dosage

The cream should always be used after consultation with your doctor.Where the cream is applied, how much cream is applied and how long it remains on the skin depends on the intended use.Your doctor or pharmacist will apply the cream or show you how to apply the cream yourself.

To anesthetize the skin before minor procedures, the cream is applied in a thick layer and covered with a plaster.The usual dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 and over is 2 grams. The cream should be applied at least 60 minutes before the procedure, but no longer than 5 hours.

For children, the amount to use and exposure time depend on their age.Your doctor, pharmacist or nurse will tell you how much cream to apply and when to apply it.

For use on larger, freshly shaved areas of skin before outpatient procedures, the usual dose is 1 gram of cream on a skin area of 10 square centimeters.The exposure time is 1 to 5 hours under a plaster.The maximum dose is 60 grams.

For use before an inpatient procedure that requires deeper anesthesia of the skin, the usual dose is 1.5 to 2 grams of cream on a 10 square centimeter skin area.The exposure time is 2 to 5 hours under a plaster.

For use before removing wart-like skin lesions (“mollusks”), the usual dose depends on the age of the child.The exposure time is 30 to 60 minutes.

For use on the skin in the genital area before the injection of topical anesthetics, the usual dose is 1 gram of cream on a skin area of 10 square centimeters.The exposure time is 15 minutes for male skin in the genital area and 60 minutes for female skin in the genital area, each under a plaster.

For use on the genitals before minor skin surgery, the usual dose is 5 to 10 grams of cream with an exposure time of 10 minutes.A plaster is not necessary.

For use on leg ulcers before cleaning or removing damaged skin, the usual dose is 1 to 2 grams of cream per 10 square centimeters of skin area.The maximum dose is 10 grams. The cream is covered with an airtight bandage.The exposure time before cleaning the leg ulcer is 30 to 60 minutes.

Intake

The cream must not be used on cuts, scrapes or other open wounds other than leg ulcers, on a skin rash or eczema, in or near the eye, in the nose, ear or mouth, and in the anus or on the genitals of children.

People who frequently apply or remove the cream should ensure that direct contact with the cream is avoided to prevent the development of hypersensitivity.

The protective membrane of the tube can be pierced using the screw cap.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you or your child suffer from a rare congenital blood disorder called “glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency”, a red blood pigment disorder called “methaemoglobinaemia”, or an itchy skin condition called “atopic dermatitis”.

Due to a possible increased absorption rate on freshly shaved skin, it is very important to adhere to the recommended dosage, area of skin area and exposure time.

Avoid contact with eyes as irritation may occur.If the cream accidentally comes into contact with the eye, the eye should be thoroughly rinsed immediately with lukewarm water or saline solution.

The cream must not be used on a compromised eardrum.

If you use the medicine before vaccination with a live vaccine, you should come back to your doctor or nurse after the specified time to have the vaccination checked.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Occasional use of the drug during pregnancy is unlikely to have adverse effects on the unborn child.

The active ingredients contained in the cream (lidocaine and prilocaine) pass into breast milk.However, the amounts are so small that there is generally no danger to the child.

Animal studies have shown no impairment of male or female fertility.
