If you have acute diarrhea with mild to moderate symptoms, it is important to drink plenty of fluids - preferably tea or still mineral water.Bacteria, less often viruses or parasites, are often responsible for diarrhea when traveling.But food intolerances or medications, especially antibiotics, can also trigger diarrhea.

Area of application

The medicine contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride, which is effective against diarrhea.It is suitable for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea for adolescents aged 12 and over and adults if no causal therapy is available.Treatment longer than 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and follow-up monitoring.

Each hard capsule contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride, equivalent to 1.86 mg of loperamide.Other ingredients include iron (III) hydroxide oxide x-water, iron (III) oxide, gelatin, indigo carmine, 92 mg lactose 1-water, magnesium stearate, pre-gelatinized corn starch, talc and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients.Children under 12 years of age are also not allowed to take the medicine.In addition, it should not be used for conditions in which slowing of intestinal activity is to be avoided, such as abdominal distension, constipation and intestinal obstruction.The medicine must also not be taken if you have diarrhea with fever and/or bloody stools, diarrhea during or after taking antibiotics, chronic diarrhea or an acute attack of ulcerative colitis.

If you have liver disease, the drug should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor, as the breakdown of loperamide may be delayed and the risk of side effects may be increased.

Children under 2 years of age must not be treated with medicines containing loperamide.Children between 2 and 12 years of age may only be treated with medicines containing loperamide if prescribed by a doctor.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.The recommended dose for adolescents aged 12 and over is one hard capsule as a first dose and a repeat dose, with a maximum daily dose of 4 hard capsules.Adults take 2 hard capsules initially, followed by one hard capsule as a repeat dose, with a maximum daily dose of 6 hard capsules.

The first dose is taken at the beginning of the treatment of acute diarrhea.The repeat dose should then be taken after each unformed stool.The recommended maximum daily dose must not be exceeded.

The medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age due to the high active ingredient content.

Do not take the medicine for more than 2 days without medical advice.If diarrhea persists after 2 days of treatment, the product must be stopped and a doctor consulted.Treatment longer than 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and follow-up monitoring.

If you have taken more than you should, seek medical attention as soon as possible, especially if you experience symptoms such as body rigidity, incoordination, sleepiness, pupil constriction, muscle stiffness, weak breathing, increased heart rate, irregular heartbeat, changes in your heartbeat, constipation, intestinal obstruction or difficulty urinating.Children react more strongly to large amounts of the drug than adults.

Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have AIDS or suffer from liver disease.Make sure you replace fluids and salts adequately, as diarrhea can lead to large losses of fluids and salts.The medicine stops the diarrhea but does not correct the cause.

Only take the medicine for the purposes described.The recommended dosage and duration of use of 2 days must not be exceeded because severe constipation or serious heart problems may occur.If diarrhea persists after 2 days of treatment, the medicine must be stopped and a doctor consulted.

Dizziness, tiredness and sleepiness may occur if you have diarrhea or as a result of taking it.Therefore, caution is advised in traffic and when working with machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Although no clear evidence of teratogenic effects has been found in a limited number of women who took the active ingredient of this medicine during pregnancy, you should not take the product during pregnancy.

Since small amounts of the active ingredient can pass into breast milk, you should not take the product while breastfeeding.

Hygiene is essential to prevent diarrhea.Wash your hands frequently, especially after using public facilities or transport and before eating.When traveling to countries with low hygiene standards, the following applies to food: 'Peel it, boil it, grill it or forget it!'Boil or disinfect water before drinking.Fry foods that may contain salmonella well and keep them refrigerated and separate from other foods.

Diarrhea is the body's useful attempt to get rid of harmful germs that have invaded it.A lot of water is also excreted.In the case of acute diarrhea with mild to moderate symptoms, the most important thing is to drink plenty of fluids.Unsweetened tea or still mineral water are suitable.Mineral salts that the body loses through diarrhea should be replaced with special electrolyte mixtures from the pharmacy.

In addition, gentle preparations that slow down water loss, stop diarrhea and naturally bring the intestinal flora back into balance can be useful.
