Instructions for use for sodium chloride 0.9% Braun Ecobag infusion solution

The isotonic saline solution 0.9% Braun infusion solution contains the active ingredient sodium chloride.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

This infusion solution is used to replace fluids and salt in cases of fluid deficiency or simultaneous sodium and fluid deficiency.It is also used when the pH value is increased and the chloride level is simultaneously reduced, as well as when there is a loss of chloride.It can also be used for short-term filling of the vascular system, as a carrier solution for electrolyte concentrates and compatible medications, for wound treatment and for moistening cloths and bandages.

Important notes

Isotonic saline solution 0.9% Braun must not be used if you suffer from overhydration.Particular caution is required in the case of low blood potassium levels, increased blood sodium levels, increased blood chloride levels, as well as certain diseases such as heart failure, fluid accumulation in the tissues, pulmonary edema, high blood pressure, eclampsia and severe kidney dysfunction.

If you suffer from a lack of water and at the same time a high level of salts in the blood, the solution must be infused sufficiently slowly.During the infusion, your water balance, acid-base balance and serum electrolyte levels will be monitored.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines.The solution should be used with caution in pregnancy-related illnesses with high blood pressure, cramps and fluid accumulation in the tissues (eclampsia).

Application

The solution is applied intravenously or used for rinsing and moistening.The dosage depends on fluid and electrolyte needs.Maximum dose: 40 ml per kg body weight per day.The solution is usually administered at up to 5 ml per kg of body weight per hour.In exceptional cases, the solution can also be delivered at a higher speed as a pressure infusion.

If overdosed, it can lead to increased levels of sodium and chloride in the blood, overhydration and increased acidity of the blood.In such a case, the infusion is stopped immediately and drugs to increase urine flow can be given.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Isotone saline solution 0.9% Braun can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased sodium and chloride levels in the blood.

If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the container and the outer carton.After first opening, the preparation should be used immediately and stored at 2 to 8°C for no longer than 24 hours.Any infusion solution that is not used after one application should be discarded.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is sodium chloride.1000 ml infusion solution contains 9.0 g sodium chloride.The other ingredient is water for injections.Electrolytes: sodium ion 154 mmol/l, chloride ion 154 mmol/l.

Isotonic saline solution 0.9% brown is a clear, colorless aqueous solution.It is available in various pack sizes including glass bottles, plastic bottles and plastic bags.
