Instructions for use for the isotonic saline solution 0.9% from Braun

The isotonic saline solution 0.9% from Braun is an infusion solution that contains sodium chloride as an active ingredient.It is used to compensate for fluid and salt losses, to briefly replenish the vascular system, as a carrier solution for other medications and for wound treatment.No prescription is required for this product.

Important notes

The solution must not be used if there is overwatering.Caution is advised if you have low potassium levels, high sodium or chloride levels in the blood, as well as certain illnesses such as heart failure, high blood pressure or kidney failure.In the case of hypertonic dehydration, the infusion must be carried out slowly so as not to further increase the salt content in the blood.During the infusion, water balance, acid-base balance and electrolyte levels are monitored.

Application

The solution is administered intravenously or used for rinsing and moistening.The dosage depends on your individual fluid and electrolyte needs.The maximum daily dose is 40 ml per kg of body weight.Overdose may cause increased sodium and chloride levels, overhydration, and acidosis.In such cases, the infusion is stopped and, if necessary, a diuretic is given.

Side effects

Possible side effects include increased sodium and chloride levels in the blood.If side effects occur, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Storage

The solution should be kept out of the reach of children.No special storage conditions are required.The solution must no longer be used after the expiry date.If the container is cloudy, has suspended particles or is damaged, the solution should not be used.After first opening, the solution should be used within 24 hours at 2 to 8°C.

Composition and packaging

The solution contains 9.0 g of sodium chloride per 1000 ml. It is a clear, colorless aqueous solution.It is available in different pack sizes and containers such as glass bottles, plastic bottles and plastic bags.
