1. What Sterofundin ISO is and what it is used for?

Sterofundin ISO is an infusion solution that is given into a vein.This solution replaces fluid lost from the circulatory system.It can be used in cases where your blood is or may become slightly acidic.

2. What should you consider before using Sterofundin ISO?

Sterofundin ISO must not be used if there is too much fluid in your system, you have severe heart disease with shortness of breath and swelling of the feet or legs, you have severe kidney disease and are unable or almost unable to urinate, you have swelling of body tissues due to fluid retention, high levels of potassium or calcium in your blood, or if your blood is too alkaline.

Particular caution is required when using Sterofundin ISO if you suffer from illnesses in which you cannot consume too much salt, for example from mildly or moderately impaired heart function, tissue swelling or fluid accumulation in the lungs, sarcoidosis, slightly to moderately elevated blood pressure, suffer from acute dehydration, e.g. after extensive destruction of tissue by severe burns or due to dysfunction of the adrenal glands,have high levels of sodium or chloride in the blood, have eclampsia, have mild or moderate renal impairment, have breathing problems, or have illnesses or are receiving medications that may lead to reduced sodium excretion.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.It is especially important to let your doctor know if you are taking medicines that cause your body to retain sodium and water, medicines that affect the level of potassium in your blood, digitalis products to treat heart failure, or vitamin D.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Sterofundin ISO contains sodium: 1000 ml of this medicine contains 145 mmol sodium.If you need to follow a low-salt diet, you should take this into account.

3. How to use Sterofundin ISO?

This medicine is given through a venous drip.Your doctor will determine how much solution you should receive.In adults, elderly patients and adolescents, the dose can be 500 milliliters to 3 liters per day.The daily dose for babies and children can be between 20 and 100 milliliters per kg of body weight per day.Your doctor will also determine how quickly the solution will be infused.The speed depends on your body weight and condition.Your doctor will determine the length of time this solution will be given to you.While you are receiving the infusion, your fluid and salt levels and your acid-base balance will be monitored.

If you have received more Sterofundin ISO than you should, you may experience the following symptoms: increased skin tension, venous congestion and swelling, fluid accumulation in the lungs, shortness of breath, water and salt imbalance. Extremely high concentrations of the individual components of Sterofundin ISO in the blood can be associated with specific symptoms that your doctor will pay attention to.In the event of an overdose, the infusion is stopped immediately and appropriate corrective treatment is initiated.

4. What side effects are possible?

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Some side effects may be caused by the method of administration.These may include fever, infection at the injection site, local pain or reaction, vein irritation, blood clots in the veins, or phlebitis originating from the injection site.Allergic reactions, appearing as a skin rash, have occasionally been reported with infusion of magnesium salts.Rare cases of intestinal paralysis have been reported following infusion of magnesium sulfate.

5. How to store Sterofundin ISO?

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children.Glass bottles, plastic bottles made of polyethylene: Do not store in the refrigerator or freeze.Plastic bag: Do not store above 25°C.Do not store in the refrigerator or freeze.This medicine is not used if there are particles in the solution or if the solution is cloudy or discolored.The medicine will not be used if the container is leaking or otherwise damaged.This medicine is for single use only.Opened containers will not be reconnected.Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label or carton.

The active ingredients of Sterofundin ISO infusion solution are: 1000 ml of the drug contains: sodium chloride 6.8 g, potassium chloride 0.3 g, magnesium chloride hexahydrate 0.2 g, calcium chloride dihydrate 0.37 g, sodium acetate trihydrate 3.27 g, malic acid 0.67 g.The other ingredients are: water for injections, sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment).

Sterofundin ISO is an infusion solution (used via a venous drip).It is a clear, colorless solution.
