Sterofundin is an infusion solution that is used to deliver fluid and minerals (electrolytes) directly into the bloodstream via a venous drip.The solution contains sodium chloride, sodium acetate, potassium chloride and water for injections.It is used to replace fluids and electrolytes when the acid-base balance is balanced as well as in cases of mild overacidification of the blood (acidosis), to remedy the lack of fluids in the case of normal or low-concentration blood plasma (isotonic or hypotonic dehydration), for short-term replenishment of the vascular system after blood loss and as a carrier solution for suitable additives and medications.

Application

This medicine is used by a doctor or healthcare professional.The solution is given as an intravenous infusion (via a venous drip).Your doctor will determine the right dose for you.Your daily dose depends on your fluid and electrolyte needs.The maximum daily dose is up to 40 ml per kg body weight per day, corresponding to 5.6 mmol sodium per kg body weight and 0.16 mmol potassium per kg body weight per day.The maximum infusion and drip rate will depend on your clinical condition and will normally not exceed the following values: 5 ml per kg body weight per hour or 1.7 drops per kg body weight per minute.The length of time this solution will be given to you will also be determined by your doctor.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.You may no longer use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the container and the outer carton after “Use by:”.The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.Do not store above 25°C.Any infusion solution that is not used after one application should be discarded.To be used only if the container is intact and the solution is clear.The medicine must not be disposed of in wastewater or household waste.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine if you no longer need it.This measure helps to protect the environment.
