Instructions for use of Sterofundin ISO infusion solution

Sterofundin ISO is an infusion solution given into a vein to replace lost fluid in the circulatory system.It can also be used for slightly acidic blood.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Sterofundin ISO is used to compensate for fluid losses in the body and for slightly acidic blood.The solution contains various active ingredients such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, calcium chloride dihydrate, sodium acetate trihydrate and malic acid.Additionally, water for injections and sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment) are included.

Contraindications

Sterofundin ISO must not be used if there is too much fluid in the circulation, severe heart disease with shortness of breath and swelling of the legs, severe kidney disease, swelling due to fluid accumulation, increased potassium or calcium levels in the blood or the blood is too alkaline.

Warnings and precautions

Particular caution should be exercised in certain medical conditions such as mild or moderate cardiac dysfunction, tissue swelling, fluid accumulation in the lungs, sarcoidosis, mild to moderate blood pressure, acute dehydration, high blood sodium or chloride levels, eclampsia, mild or moderate renal dysfunction, breathing problems, or diseases/medications that may lead to reduced sodium excretion.Your doctor will carefully consider the suitability of the solution and monitor body fluid levels and salt concentrations during use.

Use together with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about other medicines you are taking, especially those that retain sodium and water, affect potassium levels, are used to suppress rejection in transplanted organs, are used to treat heart failure, or increase calcium levels.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or planning to become pregnant.The solution is used with caution in cases of pregnancy poisoning.

Ability to drive and use machines

Sterofundin ISO has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Sodium content

1000 ml of the solution contains 145 mmol sodium.You should take this into account when following a low-salt diet.

Type of application

The solution is administered via a venous drip.The dosage and rate of administration will be determined by your doctor.The daily dose may vary depending on age and weight.During the treatment, fluid and salt content as well as the acid-base balance are checked.

Side effects

Possible side effects include fever reactions, infection at the injection site, local pain, vein irritation, blood clots in the veins, phlebitis, allergic reactions such as skin rash and intestinal paralysis.Report side effects to your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Keep the medicine out of the reach and reach of children.Glass bottles and polyethylene plastic bottles should not be stored in the refrigerator or frozen.Plastic bags should not be stored above 25°C.Do not use the medicine if there are particles in the solution, the solution is cloudy or discolored, the container is leaking or damaged.The medicine is for single use only and must not be used after the expiry date.
